Dakar EL46XL. Which side forward in the leaf pack?

The two ends are different. Installing into an OME EL095R spring pack.

Which side to the front? I'm thinking the square end, but wanted to double check. Thanks

 

Not sure if Dakars for 2nd gens are the same as for 1st gens, but I remember the extra leaf being asymmetrical, with the longer side towards the rear of the truck. I believe it was the square end, and it was the second leaf after the main one.

 

Thanks. In this case the square end of the AAL is longer by almost 2"s. The spring pack is about the same length either way. The spring pack does have more of a square cut on the forward side which led me to believe the square end goes forward. A shame the AAL doesn't have a dummy proof arrow like the spring pack does.

 

The AAL is the same as one of the springs in the pack.. just match it up to thr spring it installs next to

 

@ABNFDC Which way ended up being correct? I’m sitting here looking at mine and can’t decide. There is not a similar spring in the EL095R pack to just pair it with.

 

Correct or not, the square end forward is what I went with. I also picked up some cheap Leaf Spring Spacers(the round plastic pad) for each end, disassembled an coated with dry moly lube, greased the contact points, and then made a pad for the center of the springs. No noise and ZERO complaints here.

 

Thanks. I went with the same square end forward. It matches the taper on both ends of the spring pack and makes sense to me. No issues so far.
