I’m guessing @inv3ctiv3 has his antenna cut from his old camper. I hope.

Unless you’re lucky like me and got the small bump antenna from the factory.

I agree, I really like how tight that clearance is and am willing to chop that antenna. I also have a 2nd gen so I’m hoping it’s the same for mine as it is for @inv3ctiv3

@inv3ctiv3 has the kb voodoo bed rails which sit lower. With the stock plastic bed rails it should just clear the fin.

I'm baffled by how changing out the rail can reduce the height significantly. From looking at the rails in person, I couldn't see any more then 1/8" drop which is negligible.

    that... looks good. AF.

I love the attention to detail on this thing; all the machined bits, the translucent roof and edge lighting... and the lightness... Damn.

It might be a while from now, but I want.

    Really nice work GFC, seriously.

So does the GFC sit closer to the shark fin on a stock 2nd gen than a stock 3rd gen? (Stock bedrails)

Looks better on the 2nd gen then on the 3rd gen IMO. Great work @wileydavis @gmacmt

Can't wait to see a 1st gen version. Have you test fitted one? Mounting is going to be VERY different. Plus bed is a touch narrower...

Looks like the fabric is being tweaked to make it tight like a drum? I never actually was a boy scout, but I sure do appreciate a taut tent.

All in house, and all in USA!!!

Yes, but only by an inch. The 2nd Gen has a bed depth which is an inch "shallower" than the bed depth of 3rd Gen Tacos. So yes, the GFC should sit closer to the roof.

@wileydavis do you guys recommend running the kb voodoo bed rails for an easier more water tight install vs the stock rails or does this not matter? The only reason I’d purchase prior to picking mine up is if there’s a benefit for how the camper sits on the bed. Thanks!!

@wileydavis can you remind me again what the max capacity of the roof is, in order to still retain opening and closing. I thought you had mentioned 75lbs, and 600lbs max when closed and latched.

If that is the case is there a strut upgrade, that can make it handle more capacity (I’m thinking 100-125lbs). I realize this would make closing it empty slightly more difficult.

    Thanks

75 lbs when the CG of the load is at the strut mounting location. That weight goes down if the CG moves behind the mounting point and goes up if the CG moves forward of the mounting point. We don't recommend putting stronger struts on it for a number of reasons. Stronger struts will make it very difficult to close when you don't have a load on top. They'll also put more stress on the tent fabric, the frame, hinges, etc. The tent is a pretty big structure when opened and isn't designed to support a big load without being supported at each end like it is when closed. Your best bet is to position your load as close to the hinges as possible as that will increase the capacity and still be safe. The supplied struts have 100 lbs of force each. But you need some reserve to account for wind/snow loads, cold weather, and wear over time.

We're working on an optional aluminum sleeve that pops onto the strut to lock it out. Not strictly necessary but good to have as the struts start to wear.

Thanks brother. I was imagining keeping a big boat on there down in the Keys this fall, but unloading it at night isn’t a big deal. I’d rather take care of this camper and not be lazy and try to leave too much up there. Thank you!!!!
