What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

In the land of salt and rain / snow free socal I've gotten my exhaust stuff apart with 50/50 mix acetone and 99 cent store atf. That said it wouldn't work where you're at on its own, but it could be another weapon in your arsenal... lol

 

I had this exhaust flange that I had to remove when I dropped my transmission that just would not come off no matter what I did. I ended up having to destroy it because the bolt and nut were seized.

This too comes from a truck that's never left California. It's always the exhaust system that gives you trouble.

 

I find the only solution to this is to take everything apart once in a while haha, my exhaust came off so easily on the trail in DV cause it had only been like three months since it was off last.

 

Did you use an impact? Did you use that one that was too weak to turn the ball joint separator

 

I'll admit it was the cheapo Harbor Freight one. It was a little 10mm nut holding it on too.

 

Did you try a breaker bar or was it in a bad spot for that?

 

Not even if I wanted to. It was a bracket that held the exhaust to the upper transmission bellhousing and the only way to access it is through the front right wheel well. Barely.

Was considering using a torch, but the fuel lines were right there.

 

Was it just a stud that could be replaced?

 

Fuel lines are on the other side of the frame, but good news is the bracket is pointless and all aftermarket headers throw it away haha.

 

Imagine a steel pipe clamp, that's basically what this thing was. It was a nut and a bolt but were far too seized, I just cut it off.

 

I'm thinking of when I was trying to remove the driveshaft from the carrier bearing, those fasteners really didn't want to come off. That's when I picked up the Earthquake impact.

 

Well the truck has only been here for 2-3 winters so nothing is awfully rusty except those two nuts....

 

Before I bought the truck I was considering potential 4x4 vans. Previa was high on the list for the spaceship style dash lol...

Brackets don't sound all that bad... but I have a 3RZ. Interesting idea! I really could use just a bit more going up I70 into the mountains. Maintaining 70 would be nice

 

I have a 3RZ too, so does @BartMaster1234, FWIW it wouldn't the hardest thing to adapt. It's just hard to get you hands on one and the pieces to make the piping connect.

 

Well @BartMaster1234, I hope you're happy, you just rekindled my interest in the DIY Previa SC. It's funny, it is a larger SC than the TRD unit for the 3.4, I certainly have the time to actually give it the old college try, unlike when I was in college and couldn't afford the downtime

Not on my truck you don't haha, if this works (no reason it shouldn't) then it will have plenty of boost for my needs alone.

I even have 4xinnovation sliders waiting to go on (been in my living room for months now) I was going to hit you up actually to see if you had any good links or pics of trimming that you did to stop rubbing with that tire/wheel combo? I can't find it in your build thread, I'm really hoping that I don't have to lose my flares.

 

Yeah that one showed up on car-part too, the most expensive one was like $300 and that's not a big deal. Because of the whole electric clutch deal they really only ever popped on under high load so I doubt they're too worn out. But my goal would be to stay under the cost of the real SC kit or KO turbo kit.
