What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

Installed a cat back today. Here's the stock exhaust that I ripped out...

 

Threw in some tuffskinz pads. Only took 10 minutes and 4 beers

Is it a total PITA to get those fenders off or is it pretty straight forward?

 

Had the grill off for another project so decided to hit it with some bedliner. Had plasidip on there for almost 4 years and it was a little weathered.

 

New Falken Wildpeaks to replace the OEM Bridgestone junk. Went up to 265/70r17. No rub and looks way better. Also replaced the rusty screws holding in the bed rails and did the extra D rings mod a la boogie.

 

Ha ha great, now I need to go check to see if MY bedrail screws are rusty. #tacomaOCD

Edit: Mine aren't rusty.

 

Well, it was not today, but it was at least this week.

 

Black sure is a PITA, but it’s worth it after a bath. I spent some extra time on the suspension today.

 

Today, Was a bit of measuring and painting the interior of the pending trailer build. Painted interior of the box desert tan minimizing effects of the sun.

PO of my truck used plain old machine screws to attach the rails and they were rusted to shit. Just an eyesore and my ocd didn't like it. Luckily none broke. I sourced the the black oem torx bolts from Gunny.

 

Changed the engine oil and rear differential oil...finally! And added this...

 

Replaced the construction-paper speakers with these...for the front:

What a pain in the ass.

Some takeaways:

1) While taking the front door sail panel off, take the white retainer clips off and attach them to the panel....that way you won't lose them somewhere in the door when reinstalling the sail panel.

2) Don't be like me: while opening the panels on the front door to access the screws I used a large metal flathead. Scratched the shit out of everything in the vicinity. I'll blame doggo.

3) When reinstalling the retainer clips, make sure that the middle is pushed out a bit...otherwise you'll break the thing and throw the pieces across the driveway in a fit of rage. Or so I've heard.

4) The recommended adapter for the rears is the

$17 Metra 82-8148 6" to 6-3/4" Speaker Adapter for Select Toyota/Lexus/Scion 1998-Up Vehicles, Black

Metra 82-8148 mounting brackets. Know this: for the above speakers you will need to hammer off or cut off the tabs in the middle of the ring.

5) The holes to mount the speaker on said adapter are all over the place. Good luck.

6) The factory speaker wiring harnesses that are supposed to make things easy are cheap in quality. The actual plugs for the speakers are not uniform. I had to use a very small flathead to shape the plugs to actually fit the speaker receivers.

Sadly, it took me 5 hours to complete. Oh...and yeah...I have no idea how to install the tweeters. That's right. Five hours and no tweeter...clearly the weak link. Crutchfield sent me no information or mounting solutions for it. The component set came with a crossover no less and I have no idea how to splice it into the clusterfuck of OEM wires.

And look at the stockers...these things couldn't stick to a fridge.



All in all, it seems to be worth it. I'll let you know when I sort out the tweeter business.

Not bad at all, I have fiberglass so pretty easy...The hardest part of factory fenders is the plastic inner lining! Now that's a PITA
