Since I was quoted here, I will say as much of an annoyance the rust is on the tailgate cap it's also a wear item. Even though the sides have peeled off and places are bubbling, I also have plenty of deep scratches from loading/unloading stuff in the bay. Combined with me living right on the Atlantic coast, I'm not that upset about it.

Whenever I get the time, I'll pull it off and strip the cap in prep for some bed liner. If anything, it would be nice to order the items bare metal as an option.

I dont care about KB voodoo products but i am going to chime in and say the "harasser" is speaking like an adult without insult. while the fucking Vendor is shitting on people. what a fucking joke. Nothing positive will ever be said from me about KBvoodoo based on your lack of professionalism as a vendor.

Typically people don't "harass" vendors if an adequate resolution has been found and/or the problem has been solved for the future customers. My guess would be one of those hasn't happened.

I have zero knowledge of the drama between you two, but I would expect a generally well respected vendor here on TW to be able to rise above a single person instead of stooping to or below their level.

Let's just say that I'm beyond stressed out about this entire powder coat situation. It was entirely caused by a sub vendor and it has cost us a small fortune. That sub vendor has not accepted any responsibility.

Moving forward, we've made some pretty important changes in our finishing.

#1 We are now using nitrogen instead of oxygen during the laser cutting process. That will fix the problem that we used to have with edge peeling.

#2 We have partnered with the best powder coat shop in our area. They will also be helping us with packaging.

That said, powder coat isn't magic. Any steel product exposed to the elements will eventually have issues. We have a new aluminum bed rack all designed and prototype parts are being made as we speak. We will also be exploring aluminum for some of our other products as well.

No you are not the only one. Mine is too.

Unless the batch was 2 years ago, I can personally vouch for it NOT being only one batch. The roof rack I bought 2 years ago is literally rusting THROUGH the powder coat it was so thin, in addition to the other parts like edges and bolt contacts rusting too. Ill have to snap a picture when its light out. Mine rusted in only a few months, the rusting through the coat included, When I mentioned it there was no resolve or offer to refund cost to get it recoated. Mine was literally under covered storage for all but the 3 or 4 times I used it. Id keep it on the back of my truck cut it makes the truck look decent, but not with it rusting like this.

Its funny how suppliers only are willing to help once a bunch of people come together and make a big deal. If its just one or two people they typically ignore them. I was basically ignored and they blamed it on me being in the vicinity of the coast. Funny how now they see its actually an issue.
What they should do is refund every single person the money they spent on powder coating and the powdercoating company should foot the costs. if they didn't lawyers should get involved.

Don't get me wrong I like the rack, cool design, looks good (aside from rusting) but for what they charged for some fairly simple laser cut and bent sheet metal, I was SEVERELY disappointed.

I would not recommend a KB voodoo product because of that.

Although my side rails and tailgate are suffering from some rust, flaking of powder coating and the edges showing form of anodization or something, it's still been a great product and KBVooDoo was super helpful to me when my first tailgate cap didn't seem to fit correctly, for whatever reason. He fast tracked a brand new cap to me at no cost. So although the quality may be a but subpar, I think that's more in whatever vendor he had and although ubforunfort, it seems like the owner is doing all he can to fix it and insure it never happens again. Worst case scenario, he could offer a bare option or a bedliner option.
As for online professionalness, eh. Whatever, everybody loses a temper at some point. I'm not really holding it against him.
    To each his own.
    My 2 cents.
    Peace

The bad batch we refer to is a bubbling issue. The powder coater forgot to do their iron phosphate rinse prior to coating.

The edge peeling issue is due to oxygen being used during laser coating.

This is actually a great idea. I'd prefer a bed rack bed lined or something anyway.

It's a thought, but I think most people would rather it come coated instead of having to deal with it themselves. We also worry about bare parts rusting on the shelf.

We feel the best plan is to vastly improve our powder coating, which is exactly what we're doing.

Exactly... Not stupid thin powder coat layer rusting clear through. Meaning more than just a one bad batch issue.

I have no bubbling issues. But I do also have the edges issues. Its going to cost me several hundred to have stripped down blasted and recoated correctly to the right thickness.

Indeed. Sounds like KB VooDoo is trying go accomplish a hard task here. And realistically we are all a bunch of cynical dickheads in a glorified chatroom. Customer service is the hardest part of a business. If you can keep 50% of them happy, 50% of the time id say your doing alright.

Powder coating is not a durable outdoor finish when compared to something properly painted. It has been way over-hyped as some magic coating that it is not.

Powder coating, from any vendor, in any harsh environment, on surfaces with sharp edges, will leave you disappointed. The main issue is the moisture/corrosion will get under the powder coat at any location where the coating naturally thins out, or is easily abraded, like at a corner. Once under the solid layer of powdercoat, the corrosion will propagate in a way it could never do with properly applied paint.

Powder coat is a truly a short-term solution that looks fantastic for a while, then peels off in chunks. The only tangible benefit of powdercoat is its appealing uniform finish, which is durable enough for indoor items, or items that have simple shapes.

The industry I work in subjects equipment to harsh environments, and powder coat is always a poor choice for long-term durability. It seemed like a really great idea when it first became commonplace and affordable, but the truth is it’s not a great solution long term.

What does 'making it right' entail? I posted a couple times in your tailgate cap thread about my experience with powdercoat peeling and flaking off in sheets, and I just got ignored.

My rack was also part of this bad batch. @KB Voodoo has told me that replacement parts will be sent out. It's been almost a month now but given how many people were impacted and business continuity .etc, I'd suspect a lead time on this sort of thing.
