I’m a certified CAD designer and engineer. I’ll cut down my Engineer rate and charge my designer rate :D

Have you ever done an over softtopper rack or interested in trying? Any idea of a ballpark figure what the cost would be? As far as I know outside of custom all-pro is the only company "mass producing" over softopper racks.

No BS, is getting Cad certified a long process or could I take night classes at a local college for 3-6 months ?

I have seriously been considering that cause it would make everything so much easier and smoother. I would know what to cut everything before even stepping in the shop and it'd be so much easier to show people what they'd be getting before building it for them.

Or is it something I could learn from watching YouTube videos and tutorials in the cad programs ?

Depends on the program and college. My certification was part of my Associated degree. The school would have you your certificate within the first 8 months so you could start working as a drafter and then you could finish the your degree over the next 16 months.

Honestly Kase, if you want to use a CAD software to help get better layouts for dimensions get a better visualization of your product you can learn enough yourself. Check out SketchUp for doing 3D work. It is really user friendly.

Don’t get a desktop. Get a nice laptop with at least 6gigs of ram, a decent processer, and a solid state hard drive. That way you can take it with you wherever you go. Since you travel a lot I also suggest getting a hotspot instead of dedicated internet at a single location.

I haven’t used a desktop since 2015. My home laptop and work laptop a both powerful enough to run most CAD programs.

Aren't laptops a lot more $$$? Last one I got couldn't run my bendtech software lol. I got the laptop for school and didn't realize I would ever use it for that sort of stuff so that was on me. But idk. I'm not trying to get in over my head on this either. Just start off cheap and slow and build up. Trying to do it right.

I'm also gonna try the rogue bender since it seems more compact and bends vertical which makes it easier to read the angles on it. Seems like a lot better setup.

Bedrack kinda done. Gotta paint and mount the RTT tomorrow hopefully. Will look a lot better once it's accessorized.

This was a bitch to build cause I was alone and in someone else's shop using their tools. But not bad for a day project.

This would've been so much easier if Toyota would just build vehicles square rather than always being dovetailed and shit lol. The top of the cab being all weird is what made this take the longest.
