    You putting this on the Tacoma ? What does the one from Etrailer that matches the truck look like ? Compared to the one In the garage ? Looks pretty straight forward and the trailer light set up has the molex on it etc looks plug and pray :}https://www.etrailer.com/Custom-Fit...Tacoma/1998/118379.html?vehicleid=19981176458

    The etrailer picture looks just like it, but I don't know what the width is or the length of the pieces that bolt up on the frame. If the one I have is too wide I can cut it and sleeve it, no big deal. If it's not wide enough then I'll buy a new one. The one in the garage has never been mounted. I bought it at a place in El Centro a few years back. It was overstock and they had it on a sale table for $30...figured I could use it on something. I was going to put it on the 64 but that big ol' Barden bumper is all steel and the mounts are as strong than anything out there. So I just built a receiver box and bolted it to the bumper.

    If it looks like it and you're good with a zip wheel you can cut the side plates off and size it then reweld the side plates back on . Where is @Casper66 that is right up his alley :}

    So I know there's a ton of threads on this, but I'd like some sensible folks' opinion on wheels/tires.

    I'm thinking of going from 16" wheels to 17", and from E-rated KO2s (265/70/16) to C-rated KO2s (265/70/17).

    The 17" setup is 1.1" taller, but weighs about 5# less (per tire) than the 16". What would be the performance hit, if any really?

    That's pretty much what I had planned. Just got to pull a tape and see what the numbers say.

    Maybe a little on the bottom end, probably not much. Top end you may pick up a notch or 2 on the speedometer which may need to be recalibrated. All in all, a little different but nothing radical.

    That's pretty much what I was thinking. For the small difference on the speedo, I doubt I'd bother recalibrating.

    When I got the E-rated tires, I immediately noticed a fair drop in MPGs (approx 3mpg!), but then I'm normally pretty heavy on the skinny pedal. I think they're about 20# heavier than the stock tires per tire, so that makes sense to me.

    I'd really like to go with a tire that's just a little taller, I was hoping the lighter tire might alleviate some of the perceived differences normally seen going with with a taller tire.

    I noticed a drop in mpg when I took my campershell off. I took it off for the summer because it doesn't keep anything cool, just shaded. But I'm thinking I may put it back on...maybe I'll repaint it while it's off. It's a dark blue now. I'm going to rough it up a little and spray it sand colored. Might be a little cooler and won't show any dirt.

    I'm running E rated 265 /75 -16 Toyo Open Country Mud Terrains I've been averaging 17-19mpg even when I'm hard on the loud pedal making boost

    Rear gearing is 4.56's and would like to go to set of 88's to get another 400rpm . I also run the 30psi in the tires

    I did one about 20 year ago that was supposed to be plug and play. It was, worked great! Ford Ranger, flat 4 connector.

    About a year ago I got a set off a turd gen, went from 17" to 16". Didn't notice any change going larger to smaller other than it put my speedo dead on the correct speed. Before install I stood them up next to the truck and the 16"s actually looked taller.

    Got everything packed up and kayak trailer already hitched. We'll come home after church, change, hitch up the camper and go. We are going to a local campground down on the other side of the lake. I have to work 2.5 days, but it's close to work.
