New to me 2016 2WD Limited. 30k miles.

I purchased from a dealership, so don't have access to the previous owner to ask specifics on its history.

Anyhow, I am getting WAY better mileage than I had expected. I'm getting around 20-24 City (all depends on how many red lights I hit) and 28+ on longer (over 40 miles) highway drives. (this is assuming the dash gas mileage summaries are accurate).

I do take it super easy on the accelerator. In fact I keep the real time bar style gas mileage up all the time on my dash display by my speedo. It is almost like playing a lame video game to try to keep the blue line as far right as possible.....yeah, I'm weird.

I have found that this truck LOVES to cruise around 1200rpm. In fact, it only ever goes above 2K RPM if I hit the gas pedal harder. Generally is is shifting in to lower gears around 1800RPM.

I am FAR from complaining here. I am in love with these numbers and how it is performing. I'm simply curious if this is a normal behavior for this truck setup or should I expect that the previous owner did some electronic or other tweaks to get these numbers?

Keep in mind you are not lugging around all the weight of the stuff a 4x4 has

Oh definitely. But as far as sticker gas milage, the 4x4 vs 2x4 really only changes by like 1mpg....or so I thought.

Only time I've checked mine on a long drive was this 311 mile interstate drive between gas stops:

I routinely get results like this on my commute home from work (11 miles rolling hills interstate + 11 miles with a dozen stoplights):

Good to know. Sounds like we both drive very very light on the gas pedal. Yeah....hills do make it go to crap, but thankfully not many big hills in Dallas.

Is 22.4 miles driven a really true indicator of mpg? maybe you should fill tank all the way up to the top of the neck, drive 20 miles and then fill her back up to the top of the neck.....i think that is a better way to judge mpg

I think what you are seeing is pretty typical for 2WD. I measure MPG three different ways. The built in system, Ultra Gauge and the manual way by dividing the miles driven by the gals to fill completely. After calibrating the UG, all three methods consistently register within 1/2 mpg. On in town trips of 10 miles+ in warm weather, it's not uncommon to see 24+ mpg if I hit the lights just right and I'm on streets that allow 40-45 MPH with light traffic. Around 20 maybe 21 is the norm which is still better than the published 19 mpg. Then there are trips that I'm pressed to register better than 15 due to traffic and getting stopped at every friggin light. Cold weather starts and short trips also bring this down quite a bit.

Be happy. Nothing wrong with beating the published mileage figures.

I think he was trying to show repeatability of the same 22 mile trip.

Sounds about right. Ive found the sweet spot on these trucks is about 45-50 mph which is about 1100 RPM for the auto. I drive a 25 mile rural commute at this sweet spot and when i REALLY concentrate on getting the best mpg i can hit 27 mpg. When i drive normally its 23-25 mpg depending on traffic.

My truck is completely stock sr5 4x4.

That's what he will be saying if he keeps taking pics at over 100 mph.

Lol wide open straight highway, with traffic I wouldn't be going over 75 or just with the flow and wouldnt have had one hand on the phone.
