The wheels (SCS Ray10s that I don't have yet, but want to go to) weigh only a few ounces more than the 16"

I pinged one of our resident tire experts on the topic, @crashnburn80, here's what he had to say:

You are on the right track and looks like you have done a good job doing your homework. You mentioned going to a 265 and a 275, so I’m assuming you are referring to the 265/70/R17 KO2s.

A larger diameter tire negatively affects your performance, but a lighter tire will positively affect your performance. You are shedding over 20lbs of rotational weight with your proposed setup while running a slightly larger tire, which is impressive. Accelerating is the area worst affected by heavy tires, in terms of performance and mpg. I’d expect you to see a mild performance improvement over your existing setup, and a mild but noticeable mpg improvement if you are heavy on the skinny pedal.

When calculating your mpg with the new tires, remember to multiply your fuel economy by 1.035, as the new tires are 3.5% taller, so the truck will have gone 3.5% more miles than the odometer says.

Also C-load tires ride much better than E-loads, as the sidewalls in E-load tires are very stiff.

This is a much better path than stepping up the KO2 tire size in the 16” wheel with 265/75/R16s which are quite a bit heavier.

You can see my thread on selecting a light weight wheel/tire combo that covers all this in more detail here:

That's what I do. The cheap and the easiest and work in from there.

This why I went with the Falkens, the specs on the 265/75/16 SL were similar to the C rated tires.

I'm running a D rated tires but most of what I come across for all terrain's are E rated. Only seen few of the C's. Wouldn't mind loosing some un-sprung weight and adding flex to my sidewalls.

It is time start cooking then. Just got the food on. Well most of it.

    bottom rack food on.jpg

Ham is on rack above the baked beans. With the glaze dripping into them. Be at least 3 hours yet. Going to stuff some baby bellas with cheese and bacon in a bit they only take an hour or so. But it feels good to just sit and do nothing much right now. Because I can.
