Put together these mounts for the quickfist to mount to the cross bars.

 

Can someone give me a quick rundown of how/where we can legally drive our trucks in the Ocala National Forest?

I drove up there today to check out the public range, which to sum up in one word is scary. I took a side dirt road (unknown if supposed to but no signs said not too). The roads were clay and led to more trails so I'm not sure where they led as I wasn't looking to get in trouble.

To those of you who go up or down there which part do you go to? I know there's OHVs that require permits but does that count for our trucks since an off highway vehicle to me is either an ATV or some other non street legal vehicle.

Overall wasn't a bad trip on what I did get to do and see as far as the forest goes.

 

@Trident904 and I drove all over the place up there. I have hunted up there and drove around. Id say if there is no sign saying not to drive it should be ok to drive on. I would suggest treading lightly also.

 

Technically You can drive on any numbered trail out there but I personally i drive all over the place without an issue so unless you get caught destroying wetlands then you fucked up and get slapped with a nice hefty fine

 

What was scary about FR88 range? I go there on occasion and never had an issue, hell about the only problem I've ever had is once in a while someone wants to play range nazi for no good reason. Otherwise it's a good place to go slay paper and you can practice whatever you need to practice.

As for the trails, anything that requires a license plate is considered a road vehicle vs an off highway vehicle.

Well for one there were a couple guys talking one with a 1911 in his hands flagging the crap out of the people on the line. The guy talking was behind the line and there's really no reason to be talking there with the gun in hands.

On a side note I did notice a random steel target on one of the trails that someone put out there. That can't be kosher can it? It was about a mile or two from the range and just off a side trail. Seemed like a well built wood frame with some type of metal from a door to something it looksed like hanging in the middle.

 

Definitely not "Kosher" , however not exactly uncommon, I've seen more than a few makeshift ranges out in the middle of bumfuck Ocala. The "range" a friend of mine and I go to is public property the local Sheriff has just pretty much said don't hurt yourself and have fun on.

I'm not exactly against woods ranges, as long as you're observing all the rules of firearm safety. "Know your target and what lies beyond it." If there is nothing beyond it and you're being safe I don't see any terrible reason why it would be bad. Ideally you wouldn't be hurting trees, however the national Rangers frequently do controlled burns in Ocala Forest to keep it from getting too developed so killing a tree or two honestly isn't going to change much.

Yeah, I would be quite pissed off, might even turn into the range Nazi if someone was flagging the shit out of everyone. I'm all for doing whatever you want to practice, drawing from your holster, fast firing, firing a few shots and reloading, whatever, however I will not stand for someone pointing the muzzle of their weapon at another human being. But that's just my training...

Fortunately I've never had a bad experience like that there. That said generally I go there during the weekdays because it's typically too crowded and full of idiots on the weekends.

 

Actually speaking of bumfuck range, we went out there last weekend. Met some nee folks out there and got to shot lot of what they brought (vice versa too) including an original 1916 (WWI) Luger.

That was cool as SHIT!!!

Yeah, but @352redyota said he was looking for the badge off a 2011+, so Frank's emblem he had on the classifieds fits the bill if he still has it.

 

The 11 is different from the rest. 05-10 ,11,than 12-15. I believe it has something to do with the unique design of the honeycomb grill that was only available for the 11.
