$60 here at Total Wine. BevMo lists it for $75, but they price match. The last bottle I got was not nearly as good as the one before. I guess that's the chance you take with single barrel bourbons - each batch is different.

Agreed. But just cause they keep the price reasonable, doesn’t mean retailers/secondary market will.

Ive seen a big range in prices as well but generally around $60. I was in my local BJ's the other week and they had it for $45. They had 4 boxes on the shelf, went back the following week and it was all gone. I won't make the mistake of passing that deal up again.

Tried the Hakashu 12 and the Balvenie Carribean Cask this evening. Both great! I don’t think Hakashu is worth the 50% premium over Hibiki though.

I have yet to come across a Japanese whisky that I don't like. Some maybe a tad overpriced, but I've liked them all. I was going to go buy a Hibiki Harmony today, but thought better of it. I'm waiting for my local guy to get in the latest Booker's release. 'Kathleen's Batch' is a roundtable release. Hoping to snag two bottles of the stuff. I might break down and just pick up the Harmony tomorrow anyways .

You don't do blends as in mixers/cocktails or you don't do blended whiskey? Given Seagrams 7 is listed, I'm going to guess the former, but if the latter, the you're missing out! Compass Box makes incredible blended malts/whiskies, Michter's American Whiskey is a good blend, High West Campfire, and others. I know many "cheap" whiskies are blends, but there are some solid ones, too. Blended whiskey, especially of the American variety, isn't shackled as much as, say, bourbon when it comes to how it is made, so the distilleries can explore some unique flavors.

Looks great! How is that Booker's? I have quite a few bottles of Booker's, but didn't get any of the 2017 releases.

Finally cracked open the Old Rip Van Winkle on St. Paddy's day. My buddy and I hammed it up for the occasion. It is good. Quite good, actually, but not nearly worth the $400+ secondary market value it is commanding. Still, glad we drank it instead of selling as it was worth it just for the stories and fellowship.

Please note the "Because Dad" - We didn't have a lot of extra $$ when I was a kid - I also didn't know any better. I'm not a Blackberry Brandy fan but there's only one brand I'd get - Because Ma...

Make sense? That said I prefer single malts regardless of country of origin - I'm sure Im missing flavors but I'm old enough to know what I like and what prefer to spend my $$ on - Now if I'm at a party and somebody says, "Have you tried..." I'm very open.

Nothing wrong with a "Because Dad" drink. Not sure how old your dad is/was but I think a lot of that older generation drank Canadian whiskey cause they were alive and drinking either during or shortly after prohibition, and guess where a lot of our whiskey came from during that time? Canada, ehhh... I drink VO on occasion "Because Grandma" it reminds me of her, it reminds me of pouring her some over ice with a little splash of water before I was of legal drinking age. Plus it is cheap and smooth when you don't want something too aggressive or want something to mix. Cheers!

I'm firmly on board with the "because dad" whiskey choice. On my dad's side, they drank Seagrams 7 quite a bit (still do) with 7up. The 'ol 7 & 7. When they had a few extra bucks to splurge, it was Seagrams VO. I recently bought a bottle of VO from 1979, the year my parents got married, to stash until their 40th anniversary next year. Seagrams has a spot in my family, for sure!

There are different levels of blended whiskies. Lots of inexpensive, light flavor blended whiskies that are smooth additions to a little soda or something (like Seagrams) and then there are some blends that are quite robust. Had another one of the latter last night. High West Bourye is a blend of different bourbons and rye whiskies, none younger than 10 years old, that are aged together and bottled up. Tasted a bit like a bourbon with a high rye mash bill. Quite good!

Shoot me now for what I’m about to ask...

I’m a straight bourbon/whisky drinker. I do add a stone or metal ice cube to chill. Mayyybee on the rare chance, I’ll add a made-from-water cube.

I’m participating in a Law Enforcement exercise/training that helps LEOs detect DUIs. I get to be a drinker! Problem is, the alcohol of choice has to be mixed.

Makers and What? Bulleit and ?? Am I going to have to resort to Jack N Coke??

How about Makers and Bulleit? That's mixed.

I honestly can't help, I never cut my bourbon with anything...ever.

Have fun tho! The mix won't do the hangover any favours

Have fun with it. Don’t stick to whisky if you have to mix. Think refreshing - screwdrivers, greyhounds, Palomas, G&Ts. Clear liquor is your friend for mixers.

Indeed if we're getting out of the whiskey bourbon flavours, I'd go with a good quality gin and tonic.

Maybe a sapphire and Sam pellegrino
