So three weeks ago I was stopped behind a car that was waiting to exit a parking lot, when the guy threw his car into reverse without looking, and backed right into my front bumper. The damage was minimal, and not even worth fixing if the truck wasn't a lease... but it is a lease, so I filed a report with the insurance company immediately. The insurance company finally called me back today and, just as I suspected, he is claiming that it was me who rear-ended him. To top it off, one of the gas station attendants (who admitted right there that she didn't see anything) is also claiming that it is my fault. The guy isn't claiming any damage, which is good.... but it still means that I can't get this bumper fixed without losing my 30% discount for 10+ years of accident-free driving.

Anyway, to cut to the point, I'm wondering now if it might be worth it to invest in a dash-mounted camera for future scenarios. I'd like to keep it under $300, and am looking at the one below, but would like to know if anyone here has had experience with one that they liked.

That's a pretty slick little camera, especially for the price. I might invest in that thing. Heck of a lot cheaper than the ChaseCam system!

Yea, and the youTube clips seem like it's decent quality... not HD, but good enough to show what really happened.

Exactly. Ask these countries where the Government runs everything and see how they really like. We are headed right down the same road!

Any police report?? if not , go file one.
Call his insurance company and file a claim through them directly.
this will get them involved in this matter, and they will have to investigate.
Your insurance called him, so of coarse he claimed you hit him,
and then to claim he has no damage - please.
    Does he have insurance??
If the witness is lying, that will be a problem.

as far as the camera, if it was a good idea everyone would have one.
plus im sure there are other costs involved, software, etc

Why does everything have to be political? You do realize that by being so fixated that you're actually allowing the government to control your emotions, right?

Your obsession aside, anyone that has ever driven on a public road, gone to a park, called the police, called the fire department, or drank clean water from a tap has benefited from "socialism."

Anybody that has ever filed for and/or collected unemployment and complains about socialism is beyond ignorant and cannot be reasoned with.

More on-topic, I sent the company an information request since they don't have a telephone number listed on the website. We'll see how responsive they are.

If all looks good and the backorder isn't too bad, I'm going to pick up the 3100 with an extra camera for the race truck. :)

let me tell you as much of a pain in the ass ICBC can be insurance rates in BC are low. Don't beleive me call an insurance agent in Ontario and ask for a quote of a comparable plan you'll shit yourself.

Already heard back from KCI Communications. They seem responsive and professional. So far, so good!

My order will be in before the end of today. :)

I think it depends where you are too. I've talked to a couple people who have said their insurance was significantly lower on the island than in the lower mainland. I'm paying about the same as I would be back in Alberta, but I have looked at other companies for the non-mandatory coverage (collision, theft...) and ICBC does seem to be cheaper. I really don't have much to complain about, but there are some things that do annoy me about them.

You're right, they do respond quickly, and seem knowledgeable about the product.

I also found this, for anyone interested.

I would ask an attorney first.

My instinct says that the recording is more likely to get used against you if you are one day negligent than it is to benefit you.
