Suggestions on shocks?

I’m looking into changing the stock suspension on my 2007 tacoma. i don’t want to lift the truck because i like the stock rise height. i would be willing to raise it an inch or two. anyways i’m in the market for good and affordable suspension kits. the stock shocks on my tacoma are stiff and is like to get a softer ride.

 

Would that not be a coil/leafpack issue?

 

Maybe a progressive add a leaf in the back, stock overload leaf removed, and 5100s would help.

As for the front.... i dunno about softer coils.
Which end seems stiff to you, front or rear?

 

the front end seems to be more stiff than the rear. when it comes to talking about suspension i’m kinda lost lol.

 

Whats your tire pressure set at in front and rear?

What tire load range?

 

front tire pressure is 31 and the rear is 33. and the load range is C i do believe.

 

Well damn, cant say much there.

Surprised u run the rears higher unless your always carrying alot of weight. Which should make the truck wallow.

The front tires have more weight over them and they gotta resist braking load transfer and keep lateral stability when turning.

Ive got load range c as well, bilstien 5100s on all 4 corners, front eibach 620lb coils, rear icon progressive add a leaf.
Added weight over stock would only be a cpl hundred lbs, avid offroad lightbar, sliders, blower, and a bed cover.

I think the ride is softer than stock, theres less bucking on bumps/convex sections of road, and the trucks more stable on freeway expansion joints.

 

do the 5100’s lift the truck any? i’ve been doing some research and i’ve found that the front is adjustable but not the rear. i might look into getting the 5100’s if they are able to provide the same height as the stock ones do as I am not trying to lift the truck or make it unleveled.

Rear 5100s offer no lift, thats based on an add a leaf, progressive add a leaf, a new leafpack, or worst case, blocks.

 

The fronts don’t add any height ?

 

apparently they’re height is adjustable but the rears are not.

 

yeah i would probably leave the fronts at 0” and not mess with with the leafs. not into the whole lifting you truck kinda think lol. i’m probably gonna go with the 5100’s now.

 

Shocks by themselves don't raise or lower.

Some shocks have threaded spring perch mounts allowing them to be adjusted over a certain distance.

Some shocks have adjustable damping rates. (actually the best definition of an adjustable shock)

Some spiffy shocks like high end Tein have adjustable shock bodies (change the shock length to coordinate with the spring of choice), threaded spring perches to allow minute adjustments in coil positons (called adjustable coilovers, used in corner weighting a vehicle) and adjustable shocks, where the damping rate can be adjusted based on conditions.

The billies everyone calls adjustable just have are multiple fixed positions the spring perch can mount. Any lift is created by adding preload to the spring. They don't really adjust, you just pick a perch and run with that.

so basically with these i can use them and have the same ride height as i do right now (which is the stock ride height)? and adjusting them would just put preload on the coils?

 

If you use the 0 setting, stock springs, stock ride ht.

If you use any other setting, you get lift created by preloading the spring.

There may be a better choice than 5100s for you.
