Thanks!! 488s are a must so also be aware of those costs. People will say its not needed but I can assure you it is. Especially if you offroad.

Not that I know of. Probably wont ever do it since it would be a very very small number of people buying them. I haven't looked at gears since I bought them over a year ago so I could be wrong.

I suppose it would cut out some 4.88 sales. Its nice for folks that spend more time in the dirt than the road though. They're pretty common for first gens going for 35s. I know second gens never got them for the front for some odd reason.

I say go with a 3" lift, then cut, trim, BFH, CMC, test fit, then do it again if needed. Good luck.

Garbage? lol, I have this on my truck with 35’s and they are awesome on and off-road. I have a bunch of friends with 3rd gens with 3” lifts and we all Offroad together. It really makes no difference. If anything I get more clearance to the front bumper, side body, and rear bumper, and about the same clearance to the front diff because of the diff drop. I’ve never had any issues off road.

But I still needed to do CMC and trim some plastic for full compression while turning.

Here’s a pic of some flexing my brother snapped of my truck while he was driving behind me.

If your willing to cut you can get 35s on 3 inches. It’s not as bad as some make it out to be

I always thought the goal was to put the biggest rubber with the smallest amount of lift. . . Perfect example above.

Why get 5.29 when you could just get a second transfer case ;) haha

Btw, 90yota and k Hawaiian, your trucks are dope as f. That is an amazing example of how to minimize life and max tire. Well done!

Yep, that's basically what I said earlier in this thread. Tire diameter is the only thing that gives you diff/axle clearance, and being those are the components that are the closest to the ground, it's the first thing that's gonna get hung up on stuff. Once you're dug down to the axles it can be really hard to recover, even with a winch or someone pulling you out. It's amazing how just an extra inch can make all the difference.

The really nice thing about the Tacoma is how the wheel arches extend so far up the side of the vehicle. That gives you a lot of extra clearance for going up to a more serious size like a 34 or 35. My Ford Ranger is really limited in max tire size because of how small the wheel arches are. The biggest I could put on a Ranger with a 3" body lift is a 33" tire - to get to 35's I'd need to lift it another 4". That's 7" of lift to get 35's to fit. That's assuming you have an '07 or older, if it's an '08 or newer you also need to add torsion keys and blocks to that mix. With all that lift it just becomes a huge tipover hazard and frankly it also looks kinda goofy.

Needless to say, I'm sticking to my stock height and 31" duratracs until I can get myself a Taco.

Doesn’t make much difference if you fully cycle your suspension. Plan on cmc, plastic trim, and pinch weld hammering. I have heard 35’s end up rubbing the top of the fender plastic when bottom out. Which is why I suggest 34’s. The cutting/ removal of the passenger top fender plastic sketches me out because that’s where the air intake draws from.

That's why I love my 34s. At full stuff, they're maybe 1/2" from the top and from the fender flare. Granted this is on a 2nd gen, but they're still a great size.

I'm running the cooper MTPs in 295/70r17. Measure at 33.6" tall, but like everyone else I just round up. I love the way they fit.
