Snowplow on a Tacoma

Oh, it's narrow enough that you don't need to bother with a 3rd pass? That's handy, then.
Mine is annoying because it's 4 blade widths wide and I have nowhere to push to the side (house is on one side, garage & shed are on the other) for about 70 feet, so I have to keep switching plow angles and rolling the berm one way and then the next, working my way down the length of the driveway. I only gain about 6-8 feet at a time, less if it's deep snow, so it takes me a TON of passes. For that alone, I find myself lusting after a V-plow so I could put it in 'scoop' and cut my number of passes by a LOT.

 

Just called my local Boss vendor. They don't list V or straight blade plow for a 2nd gen double cab

 

Well discovered one issue after the storm yesterday.

I have a box of sand and some paving blocks in the back for ballast, however, I also left the snow from the past two storms in the back.

Turns out it was too much and I wasn't getting my plow down enough.

With some custom fab/welding, added hidden winch and 72" UTV plow a buddy gave to me. No commercial plowing though, just me and the neighbors that don't suck. Truck drops less than 1/2" when raised. Works great - super light. Side to side is manual but do not mind.

 

NICE...How much was it and where did you get it?

 

$2600. I ordered online from Meyers website.

 

It would be pretty hard on a midsize truck. 1 tons really aren't built for them either.

 

Fisher makes some options. Pretty sure the lightest plow boss makes for a truck is around 600lbs. The Fisher HT I think is around 400, the HS is something like 300, and the Homesteader is either 250 or 300, depending on which length you get.

 

So, even though it's snowing as I write this, nothing is sticking to the driveway or streets, so I won't need to use the plow and I believe I'm done for the season.

So, here is my assessment on the Fisher HS Plow.

One, it got the job done easily despite my rookie mistakes, i.e. tore up part of my lawn pushing snow there.

The draw back of the plow is that it's not all that easy to mount, so it stayed on the truck throughout the winter. It's not difficult, just a bit of a pain in the ass to mount.

The other thing is the shackles which mount onto the plow frame are held on with four pins on each side which has a large spring-clip to holding the pins in place.

If I were to remove the plow and go somewhere with the truck, stealing these shackles would be an easy task for some punk. So, they would have be removed and stored in a safe place first, which is another reason why the plow remained on the truck throughout the winter.

Other than that, it pushed the snow efficiently and I was amazed how powerful my Tacoma is at doing this.

So, I wait one more week then take the plow off for the season.

I just want to get a Fisher Plow cover from the dealer.

I'm kind of surprised that Fisher didn't build the HS to fit the MM2 arms; those make hooking up a snap. Lots easier than my Speedcast; that thing's a pain in the butt to attach, so I just leave it on all winter.

 

Yeah, they don't use the MM2 mount on the HS.

I had pretty good success with this plow this year. One direction and no downforce or up/down. What I like is that I can go on the grass and it doesn’t tear it up.

 

Well, it's been just over a year that I bought this plow

It's heading to the shop next Wednesday as the left angle hydraulic jam rod is leaking fluid.

Looks like it's just a seal that needs to be replaced and removing it, looks like an easy job.

I thought of doing it myself, but then, there is a two year warranty on the plow, so I'm gonna have the
dealer do it.

Hmf. Hopefully my Fisher upgrade is more reliable...
I have my fingers crossed that it'll be half as durable and reliable as the old one, but that's probably impossible since it's so much more complicated.

 

Boss setup for me!

 

I had looked into Boss last year before buying the Fisher HS. There is a dealer near me, but they did not have a plow to fit the Tacoma, at the time.

Well, I took my plow to the dealer. Fisher gives a two year warranty on the HS

They fixed it, no charge. Apparently it was just a seal, which the guy on my bowling league, has had to replace on his plow in the past.

I have a fisher homesteader(plastic) on my 15 taco access cab, I live in upstate ny (avg 60 inches/yr)I love the plow and truck.had a s10 with the hs on it it did as well.I find it easy to put on when needed otherwise I have in my garage- 5 mins at most on and off. 120 foot driveway 30 ft wide.
