As mentioned above you may have to start with a prepaid card, depending on how bad your credit is. I had to do this when I was much younger. Sucks, but it's the first step of many to get squared away. It won't happen overnight. I went from that to buying a house (15 yr mortgage at 2.6%), a loan for my truck (about 2.3%), etc because I got my score high enough over time to get great rates.

Every month the bill comes I write the cc# in the card information spot an send it in. I’ve been doing it for 3 years with no fees.

American Express Preferred. 6% on groceries, 3% on gas, 1% on everything else. 0% APR for first year and $200 back in cash after spending your first $1k. Has an annual fee but easily pays for itself.

Edit: This is not a credit building card, it requires good credit.

I just checked my statement and there is no place to put card # expiration date exc. I see these on most utility bills, but not on mortgage/car payment/CC statements.

As someone who is coming out of bankruptcy, I feel you're pain. Get a secured card and buy a tank of gas with it a month and pay it off. My score has jumped 75 points in two months.

Also with Mint from intuit I get a free credit score every month. Since I do my taxes for free with Intuit Turbotax.

I’ve seen worse! ( I work at a car dealership so we see credit scores every day ) You should be able to build that up rather easily. Credit cards are good if used right. They can really fuck up your debt to income ratio if you’re not careful. Just pay it off every week or month and you’ll be golden.

It's not bad. Mines a 707. I got approved for three simultaneous loans not long ago, but had to back out of two. (Was going to buy land and build a house, but decided to wait a year.) The third is my truck.

revolving credit won't build your credit as quickly, just to note. and it may help your score but not help you get approved for higher amounts (like for a vehicle)

secured loans build your credit the quickest, i understand that's kind of a catch 22 right now. might be better to get a cosigner. my dad had to cosign for me on my first car loan, i was a ghost. after 6 months i was able to buy a house

    I don't check my credit. Therefore, until I do it's an 850.

I choose points and miles for traveling expenses.

Ever since my wife and I started doing the points and miles game, we have not paid for a single vacation out of pocket. We have been doing this for about 4 years now, love it!

Interest only matters if you don't pay in full.

    This.

If you are only trying to build credit, dont worry about interest rate.

Just pay it off every paycheck or month.
