Sliders would be a good idea and after reading @Jibbs thread on squeezing some 255/85R16 BFG MT's on his stock TRD OR I might do the same before this trip.

 

Or.... he could have taken the line to the left, stayed 10 feet away from the edge....kept all 4 tires n the ground and drove straight on up the hill.

I'm serious....it's EASY.

I don't think anyone that has been there is scared to try to go up it. I would've been the first (like I'm sure most people that usually wheel with us would) to continue on the trail. Some people not so much, which is why they voiced their opinion to not want to continue on. I'm sure we'll be there again and if someone doesn't want to, then we can find them an alternative route. I'm not sure why you all are still bent all to piece about going up 1 rock or not lol.

 

It looked to me like every one of the trucks in that video that didn't have 35's + dragged sliders/rockers on the first rock taking the 'easy' line. The black cherokee tried taking the right side with plenty of momentum and first about went over the damn hill, then finally made his only good decision of the ride and didn't try to go over the next rock that would have pushed him even closer to that edge.

Also I dunno what everyone's doing with that fucking rut with the giant ass rock in the middle of it at the end. People are trying to straddle the rock?? I dunno much about rock crawling but from what I understand you always want to put your rubber on the biggest rock.

In other news, thats exactly the future Cruiser I'm trying to build! Except probably without the snorkel.

I'd take any of our group over gibraltar that have sliders, cause as near as I can see, we're all gonna use them. We may have to do some trail building (throw a few more rocks or logs or a spare tire in front of the rock) to get people without sliders up it without smashing their rockers.

When we do this, Bill can lead the line, he seems to be the most experienced in the group.

 

I rubbed the sliders 2 times. That's what they're there for.

There's nothing special about my truck on this kind of trail. Mud tires don't get you much on rocks! But I'll have that shiny new bumper and winch on by then, hopefully

The clearance will help you out and you'll love the tires at any other meets you go to cause they really are monsters in mud. I've gotten through holes I had no business getting through thanks to them. I'd get tires and sliders before anything else for offroad-y mods.

 

Rock crawling is like chess. If you arent looking 4 or 5 moves ahead you will find trouble. The order you select which rock to put rubber on next is the one that sets you up going forward.

But yeah....cant figure out what they were doing. It is greasey slick about there.

There is a well wore in trail to and from both sides of that hill. Indicates a lot of traffic. Indicates do-able...

I’m planning, or was planning on getting Firestone’s new MT2. After reading that MT’s won’t work, I don’t know what I’m getting. I have a Windrock event next month and another in August that I’m going to. I plan to try both weekends of this shindig.
What kind of tires do I need, and how do I find @Jibbs tire thread?

BTW I know I take the long route to ask simple little questions.

 

Just get an MT tire, it'll be fine. RRG is about the only place we've been where an AT is fine, and Harlan. Harlan is rocky too.
Everywhere else, MT wins every time. Couldn't tell you how many times someone told me my grabbers are packed with mud and I have no traction lol.
