I put in some Toyota rings in the bed today. This was a handy guide and should prove useful down the road. I'm getting tempted to add some more to the side rails like gjbonner did.

Praise to TW for good info.

Just did mine last night. I used the "cheap-o" one and think they look great and feel stronger than the (2) OEM ones. I couldn't find my dremel and tried a bigger grinding bit, but ended up using a hand file for the ridges and it worked out very well.

Going to get myself one tomorrow. My rings came in last week. Can't wait!

ETA: I decided to make this my late night project. Unfortunately, neither Lowes, Home Depot nor Sears had the T-55!
    Really upset now. :(

Aren't the bolts stainless steel? Just wondering if you need to prep them with something after grinding the rings down. Did you paint it just for looks?

I bought a T-55 at PepBoys for $5, but before I could use it, I found a complete set at Harbor Freight for under $10.

For those that have done this mod, has anyone experienced any problems since? have the bolts come loose after grinding them to make room for the d-rings?

No, not at all. If you torque the bed bolts back down to spec (55-60 ft-lbs) they have no more chance of coming loose than they do from the factory. The rings you grind off are up near the head of the bolt in order to remove the factory washer. You don't touch the threads of the bolt that are used to secure the bed to the frame. See "Step 4" back on page one of this thread.

Step4: Use Dremel to grind down rings below washer (this must be done to remove washer)
