That’s weird. I had 0 issues registering mine. All I had to do was show the purchase receipt (I was charged Cali taxes in Oregon) and paid some fee. That’s it.

I got bids from multiple dealers within a three hour drive. Ended up going with a dealership in Independence KS 80 miles away as his price was better by about $3K over the local dealer. Put my $1K deposit down in January and my truck is to be delivered at the end of April. Had to order my Tacoma as I wanted a MY Off-road with Tech Premium, leather and in black. One other advantage is that I did not have to deal with Gulf States Toyota. They seems to package lots of unneeded extras on the truck which ends up making my pay a higher sales tax and tag here in Oklahoma. My new truck only has what I am not able to install myself.

Drove a little over 2 hours. Dealers in the Atlanta area didn't seem to want to deal. Saved a good $2000 plus got what I wanted for my trade. Very happy and worth the drive.

Hopped a flight to Boise, and drove my Tacoma back to Vegas. Got what I wanted at a good price, and could not find one local.

Flew from KY to Tampa to buy my second gen in 2010, drove 60 miles to buy my 3rd after I had about talked myself out of a new one and decided to look at how far I’d have to go for exactly the truck I wanted and damn it popped up right down the road. Bought it the next day.

Closest Toyota dealer was under 2 hours away. Went there to find the truck, then a second time to pay for it and drive away.

We Live in the middle of nowhere Missouri stationed out here the Toyota dealers are limited in stock and prices are just plain stupid. My wife and I drove 6.5 hours to Team Toyota in Schererville, Indiana in order to get a 2017 TRD Offroad w/out any type of tech package and with a 6-speed Manual Trans. I had my heart set on this one in the Quicksand color I wanted. Unfortunately when I got there I found out it was already traded to another dealer and was awaiting transportation.

My wife saw my disappointment, and bless that woman she immediately got on here phone searching for another one. She knew it would be a challenge as it was pretty hard to find this one to begin with. She was able to track one down in St. Charles, Illinois which was another 1.5 hours from where we were, so we decided to go take a look at it.

Upon arrival I asked to see truck, however at that time the dealership had no personnel to drive the stick shift rig up front, so they drove me to the way back of the lot in a golf kart to go take a look at it. We jumped in, took it on a test drive and that was it. Price was $31,600 so we handed them they keys and traded my 2017 SR5 which we owned a total of 3 months. Done with the process the wife and I drove it home that night.

Wow, that’s cool. You live in Missouri, probably took I-55 past my hometown of Bloomington, Illinois to your first stop in schererville. I Flew to Kansas City, Missouri for my Pro (400 miles). So we kind of cross-crossed each other.

BTW, your wife sounds like a keeper!

Molle. Found one there that wasn’t loaded with accessories I didn’t want. Worked with a guy named Steve Heneke. Awesome guy, drove to the airport clear on the north side of town to get me. Fun drive home!

I tried to work with them but they weren't willing to work with me online, kept asking me to come into the showroom. Congrats!

I called on the phone, and asked for a salesman. Internet sales people are sometimes the worst to try and communicate with, ironically. I told him my card was sitting in front of me, I was ready to put a sizable deposit on the truck if they’d work with me on it. Steve’s a good guy.

No smog check? They didn’t ask for the receipt when I went; they went by whatever I wrote on the paperwork -which I was honest, but was shocked that I could’ve written anything...my mind started to wonder if this is a DMV best kept secret that I just didn’t know about cause no one I know personally has ever done this..they also sent back the whole original “origination certificate” and all paperwork because they forgot to make sure I signed the back of it and the header letter said they couldn’t finish registration and send plates and the reg stickers unless this was signed and sent back but they still sent me tags and plates lol. They are so unorganized!

The Tacoma has the 50-state emission certification sticker. A simple picture of that will do if the car is less than 7,500 miles. I just took a picture of the sticker and printed it out and gave it with the documents but they didn’t even look at it. Easy breezy.

I told them that and took the window sticker with me that shows VIN and she said we can’t go by that. Very odd...anyways all in the past now!
