I can't believe cars get stolen in Hawaii, can't they be looked out for by the police and found relatively quickly if they're back on the road?

That’s a sport over here they steal them for joy ride, parts, and ship them over seas. My friends 2000 Honda Civic has been stolen 4 times each time they find after the last time insurance had enough and totaled it. I personally have had two motorcycles stolen from me an a beater 93 Corolla.

There is a Jeep that's been for sale for a long time, it was stolen, someone got a lien on it and put in their name, then traded it in. When the original owner found it on a car dealer lot, he called the police, it's still for sale, legally. Not sure how that works since a stolen vehicle is registered in a national database.

A friend had something similar happen, essentially once insurance pays out for the stolen car if it turns up again but the police can't pinpoint the perp then it basically just goes back out on the road with stolen in its vehicle history.

Yup our cops here have been caught stilling 4runners and switching vin numbers for insurance fraud purposes. And you know the whole Kealoha fbi thing. (Not all cops here are corrupt but man we seem to have quite a few that get caught)

Here on the big island Toyota trucks are the number one stolen vehicle. Drugs are super heavy on the big island. Guys jack up trucks and leave them on blocks for Tacoma stock rims right at the mall or wal mart.

    Really???

Guess I need to start looking again at installing a "kill switch". Had one in an old '92 Accord. Switch would interrupt the fuel pump. Could have still towed it, but no way that thing was starting.
