    I have family in Texas.

The Texans are not my concern. The Satan-spawned coke cartels that have basically turned Mexico into a war zone for the past year give me pause.

If Texans were really more capable than the Border Patrol, why haven't they implemented their own state based program and lauded its greater success? After all, that'd create a ton of jobs, and people needs them work these days.

I'm pretty sure Houston would fall in a day. Everyone's too fat to fight back.

Also, they'd have two borders to patrol, you know, having to keep the marauding socialists from the north from coming down and giving them helthcare and Priuses. That would thin the patrols out and everyone would have to work, like, 80-hour weeks.

If Texas does go, can you take Oklahoma with you? Please?

    And Kansas please.

And if you want to shoot the fuck out of/set fire to California on your way out the door, I won't bat an eye.

LOL, even though California's economy is in the shitter, they account for 20% of the nations agricultural production. You'll need them.

No. We never need California. I am adamant about this.

    OH HELL YES.

I-70 from KC to Denver is the worst stretch of road anywhere, ever.

I'm pretty sure the cartels would rendezvous with the gang-bangers in Wichita, anyway and take the whole region with them. They can have a whole lot of flat, brown land.

Hey! I'm starting to like this Texas secession thing! Where do I sign?

If you're lucky they'll try to follow Texas ans secede themselves. THEY would be part of Mexico in a matter of days since none of their citizens could own a gun even if they wanted to.

The high taxes go to keep that "inept" Border Patrol holding back the masses and allowing "bums" from populating ever street corner with their awful mental illness and beggary. Not to mention stuff like roads, schools, water purification and distribution, natural disaster remedy (which Texas gets its fair share of), etc...

You wanna cut down on the taxes? Why don't you guys try having less hurricanes?

This is why I live in the midwest. Wisconsin, Minnesota and Upper Michigan. I can work, hunt, own my guns, drink what I want, smoke what I want, and be ok with being branded a hippy. Not to mention doing all this while living in a liberal state

(for the record socially I am extremely Liberal, Fiscally rather conservative. Although Their hasnt been a republican politician that has been anything near what they are supposed to fiscally stand for since I can remember. smaller government my ass)

    I wish

If there was no such thing as federally mandated flood insurance, maybe people would learn not to build in a flood zone.

That wouldn't keep hotels and other businesses out, but that's just part of doing business near the coast.

Settle down here fellas. Let's not get too heated.

But, I will note most of the country got a Tax cut last year:

    http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-6201911-503544.html

The reason no one on the extreme right realized it is because they only get their "information" from one source: Rupert Murdoch.

The sooner that man dies, the quicker we get back to being an intelligent country again.

Holy crap tell me about it.

Growing up in St. Louis, I never understood why people wanted to build their house on a flood plain.

I figured most of the posts are pretty sarcastic anyway since no one is posting stats or facts

Just because "most" people got a tax cut doesn't mean taxes weren't raised. I'm not rich and I still think it's a crime to tax such a disproportinate amount of income belonging to our most financially successful citizens.

Ask George HW Bush. He's the only one that ever did so (to his credit). You may recall he was kicked out of office for it (as a popular sitting president during a war no less.) All these guys:

    Bush II
    Obama
    Clinton
    Reagan

Just spent expansively on credit while cutting taxes. Hence why we have such a huge national debt now. In gross dollars anyway. You can easily make the argument that the national debt is no big deal as it's still well below its historical maximum as a percentage of GDP. I know that argument can be easily made because it was made all the time during the Bush II administration, when liberals were griping about Bush's spending because they were out of power.

    Taxes were raised...by the states.

What "disproportionate amount"? The highest bracket is...38%? If your income is 10 million and you pay 3.8 mil in taxes, 6.2 million is still plenty to live luxuriously off of. If you make 20k gross per year and pay 5k in taxes, it makes a world of difference.

Also, and here's the really interesting part, the wealthy make most of their money using methods other than income. Capital gains taxes (e.g. if the money is made on stocks) are much friendlier than income tax. If you make the money overseas (investing in foreign markets), that income technically isn't subject to US tax law at all. There are plenty of ways to dodge.

I'm all for taxing the fuck out of the rich if my taxes as a middle class citizen go down. Most of the wealthy inherit their fortunes anyway. I hope Paris Hilton gets the shit taxed out of her, the dumb ****. Then I can pay less.

There was more afoot in 1992 than a simple presidential election. If you think Clinton's election had anything to do with GHW Bush's shortcomings, then you underestimate the Clinton political machine.

I think that ship has sailed.

Despite hating everything FOX News puts on the air (and I even have a friend that works there!) I still find myself watching it to see what "Assault on Americans" they will spin up next. Some times I sit back and laugh. Mostly I just die a little inside.

It amazes me how much of that stuff people take as fact without doing the legwork to research it themselves. But, I guess spoon-fed propaganda is the American Way.

Why think for yourself when you can have someone else tell you what to think!

This has nothing to do with anything in my previous post. But I'll humor you.

Clinton's political machine didn't have shit to do with his election. Ross Perot stealing 20% of the Bush vote did. Had Perot not been on the ticket, a second Bush term was almost certain. The vast majority of Perot voters leaned right.
