2018 TRD PRO Grille w/ TSS-P Radar Info/DIY

How much does it cost to have it recalibrated?

Mine seems good, sitting a couple inches lower is all, may have to lift the truck a couple inches to offset this.

 

Well to kill this grille thing for me. I got the final "Can't do it" from my last dealer on selling me a 35180 so I just went on with buying the OEM 35170 from Amazon. Put it in yesterday and used the original wire harness with no problem. Used the first factory clamp mount and moved the wire harness right down the grille line of the old ones ...Just used two new black zip ties on the same spots. The "star clips" were a P.I.A. to remove from the new 35170 fascia and I ended up cutting them off with the dremel tool.

Whole deal ended up costing me more then 2018 grille would have but I ended up getting a 2018 garnish for free so that helped on the $$ total. It's all OEM and I preferred doing it that way. No radar malfunction yet and I'm lifting it this weekend so I'll wait till that's complete to see if I get any abnormalities out of the system.

I had an early OEM 3rd Gen Pro grill, bought the 2018 garnish. Swapped everything to my 2018 OR. Works perfect no errors. If anyone is looking for an OEM 2016-17 Pro garnish pm me. Thank you guys for doing the research and making this easy.

 

Just to be clear, since people keep asking the same questions, and it's not all in one post. If you have a 2018 and want to install the TRD Pro Grille, here are the parts:

PT228-35170 or PT228-35180 - Grille, TRD PRO (170 will require removing the dummy garnish cover, 180 requires no work); get whichever you can for the cheapest you can find (or aftermarket if you must...)

Also of note, the TSS sensors themselves are different part numbers between TRD PRO and non-TRD PRO trucks, 88210-04020 is the TRD PRO sensor. Not sure on the functional differences, but they seem to mount the same. Calibration is recommended.

Does anyone have a link for me to purchase a TRD Pro grill off ebay that will work with my 2018 TRD Sport? Also, the garnish piece needed as well. I checked Ebay and there are a ton being sold, so I wanted to see what actual TW members purchased. Thank you!!

 

This write up was extremely helpful. Just put an OEM 2018 grille that I bought months ago before the VIN freeze and it took about an hour and a half and no broken tabs!

The spring nut washers were a pain in the ass to work with though, at least I thought so, to get them so seat all the way down.

 

Has anyone run into any problems with getting an error even with the grille garnish piece installed? When I first installed it, everything was fine but then I started getting the error a few weeks later and now it just comes on every now and then. The garnish piece is clean but it still says clean the sensor? Should I take it apart and check that the actual sensor is clean?

 

Do you have a lift? I read somewhere with a lift, you my have to get the sensor recalibrated. If not, maybe take it in the dealership and have them take a look at it.

 

If I get the '16-'17 grille, is it easy to take the garnish out and replace with the '18? Or is it a hack job? I hate this vin freeze, but really want the pro grille.

Also main concern is not being able to still use TSS. I know you still can, but isn't it now installed in a lower position than stock? Does it matter?

 

definitely interested in this as well. I wonder if they calibrate the Pro from the factory since its lower. I'd probably pay to have it recalibrated just because I want the functions all working as stock.

Also... why does the 16-17 grill have a port for the garnish if the garnish only came on 2018s? MIND BLOWN

 

Successful 2018 OEM grille and garnish install...so far so good, no errors.

It's pretty close to impossible to remove the tabs of the stock grille when uninstalling, unless I am missing something. After I broke like 3 tabs in a row I stopped caring.

No the install was perfect, no damage. I meant taking off the stock grille is tough to not break tabs

 

did you have extras? Or is it specific and attached to the stock grille?

I'm really thinking of waiting on this mod until I can get the '18 grille and save 200 bucks as opposed to the 16-17 grilles. Honestly, the 2018 grille looks way better than the older 16+17 grilles anyways. Might go baja designs amber fogs to fill my mod void for the time being

 

Nice, I'm thinking about the Baja Amber as well! The only extra parts are the screws that the stock grille attaches to it's bezel. Also the sensor has 2 extra screws that don't fit with the pro garnish.

 

I got my grille from Beaver Toyota in Augustine FL. I just gave them a vin# I found from a local dealer that had a pro. They didn't question it, where most dealers had and cancelled. It cost me about $200 shipped plus $50 for the garnish.
