I listed everything, minus the oil filter cost which is $6 (I just bought one), for an engine oil and front diff, rear diff, and transfer case oil change. It comes out to around $130 for all the oil and parts. Maybe $150 at most. Maybe add another $20 if you don’t have a pump for the diff/transfer oils. But that’s a one time cost. Not sure what else you’re spending money on to only save $150. What I listed saves you close to $300.
You didn’t mention alignment in your first post, just all oil changes. Even if you want to factor in an alignment, at most that’s another $100. So now you’re still saving $200.

I’m not trying to be argumentative, I’m truing to understand what the hell youd be spending so much money on to only save $150 for an engine oil and gear oil changes.

Not sure where you're seeing 30,000 km. I see "30k miles", as in 30 thousand miles. Maybe you misread the OP.:notsure:

A lot of people just type 30k which really means 30,000 Miles and some read it as 30,000 Kilometers

I’ve taken it on about 1000 miles of off-road, and don’t see it being a significant amount what’s listed in the manual for
    Recommended maintenance.

Even talked to my neighbor who’s wrenched for 30+ years. He said, I think you’d be wasting money to be honest...

I’m all about preventative maintenance, but not trying to blow money when not needed.

I’m still trying To wrap my head around the 10,000 mile synthetic oil changes, coming from most of the cars and trucks I’ve owned I change at 5,000 miles.... but Toyota states that’s what’s recommended

We had two turbo cars with 10k intervals and one at 7,500. The 10k cars ran 5w-40 while the 7,500 uses 0w-30. I was comfortable with the 5w-40, but 0w-20 and -30 make it uncomfortable. Thanks to TW, there are threads like this:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/oil-test-results-from-30k-oil-change-update-40k.505428/

    My confidence is building.

I did do an early change at 6k just to feel good but will stick to 10k going forward.

I’m personally not that worried about $100 in gear oil every 30k miles personally. Depending on how much you drive that’s probably only once every year and a half, maybe less for others. I drove my truck a lot my first year and hit 30k in a year. I also wheeled it a decent amount but I would have changed it at 30k anyways. I’ll certainly be doing another change at 60k.

I definitely don’t do the 10k oil changes either. In my last 5k miles I did very little wheeling and the oil looked pretty dirty. Again though, about $30 in oil and a new filter every 5k miles is nothing for me. I get everyone’s financials are different though and don’t see things the same way.

It’s a small sealed pumpkin and even smaller front and even smaller Tcase non combustion, no contaminants, everyone in the world of fine with 60k oci unless you’re submerged in water and sucking in water.

Here’s the thing with combustion engines. It doesn’t matter what oil you use if you’re doing small trips, idling in cold weather and not letting the engine fully warm up. You’ll dump a lot of fuel water and contaminents and even the top of the line synthetic in the oil and the TBN can go to 0 as in not lubricating.

Most Toyota engines are race engines (factory), hence the TRD Toyota RACING Development on most all of our trucks.

The best thing you can do with our engines is take it out on the highway and drive the shit out of it.

There’s a video of a guy with a 3.0 twin turbo Toyota Supra who ran 15 consecutive 8 second 1/4 mile passes one night and smokes everyone including a Dodge Hellcat at the end. People were dumbfounded. I’m aware that 3.0 was a pure race engine and block from Toyota factory to competed with Nissan, Honda, etc.

Can’t find that video but check out this 5.97 sec 1/4 mile Toyota Supra Twin Turbo, that’s a 3.0 Toyota block running as close to top fuel dragsters.

Yeah I bought a Tacoma Sport

You can't buy OEM oil nor AMSOIL for the prices you listed, as I stated thats all I'll use.

You can argue the cheap shit is just as good but I won't use the cheap shit anyways so its a mute point...

$130 is the cost of the differential and transfer case oil ALONE. Thats before they even get to my transmission which takes 3 cycles to even get the majority of the old fluid out of there....

Its weird to me "enthusiasts" on here will spend $$THOUSANDS$$$ on mods but then cheap out over $80 to use the correct fluid lol. You do you though :)

LoL! My old 2000 was a manual. I never changed the trans, front, or rear diff oil! I just did ALL the oil changes myself. I had almost 300k when I got rid of it. It was rusted out from the beach and I went everywhere I wanted! It had a little catch in 1st, so it was time for gear/clutch/tranny work, probably needed a new radiator, water pump started screwing up occasionally and went through 3 at the end. It was reliable 15 of the 16yrs I owned it..if I had $$ I would have fixed it back up after I got a new one..

You obviously well researched so I won't say you're wrong, but nonetheless I'll take an actual group IV from Japan or Europe which are held to a real standard of "fully synthetic" than the american marketing definition that was lobbied by exxon-mobil (who sponsors BITOG btw, still a great resource).

The Toyota gear oil is actually made in Japan where mobil 1 isn't even allowed to call itself fully synthetic lol.

Maybe I'm wasting my money but again I'll spend the extra $100 to use the correct fluids every 30k miles seems like a silly place to pinch pennies.

Hey whatever makes you happy! To me it just sounds like you live somewhere where all there is to do is either wrench or drink and watch football... in which case I agree wrenching is probably more fun!

I ain't got time for that though too much surfing, offroading, dirt biking, mountain biking, camping, spear fishing, volleyball, basketball, scuba diving, kite surfing, or any other of my dozens of outdoor hobbies to spend my days off doing the job of a $12/hr technician "for fun". But thats just me :)

Hit me where it hurts! You know every San Diegan has an unhealthy obsession/pride with that fictional character.

Ironically Denver/Boulder is the only other area I'd consider living so I can't really talk shit about where you are :)

I'm only kidding. San Diego is the shit, and the weather is perfect. My cousin lives there and I have some good friends that moved there from the Denver area. Always a good time, and there is more Broncos fans there than Chargers

It’s all good, enjoy your life, never assume others aren’t enjoying theirs.

I’ve owned a condo in Encinitas North County SD on J Street right up from Swami’s for 8 years late 1990s, moved to Boulder Co and Basalt Co (Aspen) and owned two houses for another 8 years.

The good life often gets boring, sometimes we just want to change our own fluids.

If TOYOTA offered a big L6 motor mated to a M/T as a choice of power trains, I’d be all over it like white on rice. All the torque you’d want for wheelin in 4WD and stout pulling power. Add a factory super charger...instafan.

I honestly assumed you were young sounds like you've already lived a lot of those action packed years.

Encinitas in the late 90s mustve been something else... I imagine open surf breaks, no traffic on the 5, and probably semi reasonable housing costs.

Its a whole different city now, I have to go to Baja if I want to avoid competing with 20 guys for every peak, the 5 is a parking lot these days, and you need to be a millionaire to buy a house in Encinitas.
