Ok. I had a guy at the gas station the other day asked me if mine sounded like a diesel. He said his did and wasn’t sure if it was supposed to. Lol

If only... I still had a clip on my phone from when it was doing this, and I'm pretty sure if I have my A/C on and its hot out (always did it worse when it was hot out) it still does it. And hey, fuel pumps are expensive so if I could get a 25k one replaced due to this annoyance I'll get it done no doubt. Called up my "service advisor" who basically gave me the same "drop it off for a day, if we can validate the concern, we will contact Toyota for approval before ordering any parts and then likely 2 weeks to get them in..."

I really need to use another dealer close-by... the one I bought from is one of the highest volume dealers in the country (i.e. great place to BUY, terrible place for service). The utopian thought of being able to send in a video and get the part ordered was just too good to pass up. But pass it has :)

Just hit 5000 miles, last 500+ on the 87 tune. Went to the dealership for the free Toyota care. Asked them to check the trans fluid, they refused but did take the truck for a test drive. Service rep asked me if I was experiencing idle surge or hard shifting on cold start  guess they noticed it on the test drive...doesn’t really bother me much but still looking forward to the tune update that should fix.

Yup. I have not had good luck with Ford or Toyota now in getting them to do any tranny fluid check. I’m only going to the dealership since it is free. I usually go to my own mechanic when it’s not covered and they will check or change it anytime I want.

Don't you just go underneath and look from the overflow bolt hole?

I was going to post that question on the 3rd gen thread so as to not keep that conversation going on the tune thread.

Not that this thread doesn’t get off topic now and again.

But that is exactly my question, which makes me wonder why they wouldn’t do it. I haven’t had much good experience with warranty or free service. They seem to be good enough people, but the dealerships don’t have incentive unless they get paid. I could beat them into submission, but what would be the point? Even if they do it, it could be a crap job. I like to take my business to those that want to earn my business.

Instructions to check the fluid level in the transmission this for the 4x4 variant but should be mostly applicable to the 2wd trucks as well.

The transmission fluid has to be within a certain temperature range, to properly check fluid level via the overflow hole.

10 pages? Looks complicated, but it's probably not, I bet it could be summarized into 2 pages.

It has to be at the right temprature then you open the fill hole and the drain bolt on level ground then pump in toy WS trans fluid until it comes out the drain hole. Takes a few, they dont get paid for it, so they don't want to bother.

I have had my tune for about a month or so and absolutely love it. Now I just installed a K&N cold air intake. My mpg went up, I can for sure feel a little hp gain. Super happy with it so far. But it feels a little touchy and sensitive now, which I don't really see as a terrible thing but its got me wondering now, was I supposed to do something with the tune prior to installing the CAI ? I guess my fear is that it may be running lean because the stock intake has that charcoal canister that suffocates the engine or restricts the air flow compared the the K&N and now its getting a lot more air flow than maybe the tune was set up for? I'm not very savvy and had to pay a TW member to help me install this so go easy on me lol. Thanks

I have the K&N also but I’ve had it prior to the tune. You could possibly reflash so it learns and adjusts to the new air flow. There is a noticeable difference with it. Especially it’s volume ( it really opens up and growls in ECT ) and my MPGs went up also
