I'm about to do the install this weekend. Thanks for the how to write up!

One question. I have a '14 and have 4 leafs. Does the AAL leaf still go in the same place? Or do I take one out? Installing pro comp AAL if that matters.

EDIT: Nevermind. The OP was with 4 leafs already. So never mind. Thanks!

    None yet.
Silly question. How much more can the truck hold since the leaf spring was added?

Great and helpful write up. Interestingly enough we installed one on my brothers 06 and had all kinds of issues, had to use a pry bar etc. Did my 2014 6 months later and it went smooth as can be. For anybody using the center pins from Toytec, do yourself a favor and ditch em and get some thing with stronger threads at your local Ace. It's very easy to mess up the threads when jimmying the leaves to get them all aligned and the Toytec threads were all jacked up.

I’m thinking of removing my 1” block and putting AAL in its place. I didn’t have to change the shocks for the blocks. Anyone think I’ll have to with the AAL?

What shocks, stock? I don't think so. I think they are often 0-2 lift so that would cover the block or the aal.

anyone have any insight on how much difference it make in the ride quality using the long aal Vs the short aal. I noticed its an option on a lot of the websites but just curious if it makes much difference

Don't know if I've seen that option before. Do you have an example?

Ahhh, gotcha. I can't help you out here because AFAIK, all the AALs are the same length on 2nd gen.

In my experience with the 1st gens the short aal was much stiffer...much stiffer than the front aftermarket springs. With the long aal on my 2nd gen its eqally as stiff as the front (also w aftermarket springs). I hear the short aal is not great with the crappy 2nd gen leaf packs too. I'd always go with the longer one.

Installing 3leaf AAL from Wheelers. Might have stripped last few threads of the centerpin bolt. But the threads don’t run down the entire bolt. That made it way to easy to strip last few threads. And if I wouldn’t have chosen to leave the overload spring in the centerpin bolt never would have worked to begin with. Now I’m stuck for the night. Hopefully I can find a new centerpin bolt tomorrow!

Anyone else ever had this problem? Suggestions?

Put the other leaf spring bolt with the full threads in easy breezy. No problems. Think Wheelers just messed up by packing wrong bolt.

Not Wheelers, but I had issues with theToytec pins as well. Not sure they were grade 8 or threads were tough enough or what, but the threads got jacked up waaay too easily. We used better ones From Ace and it made it much easier.

Amazing how many years this post has been excellent information! Just received my Headstrong progressive 3 leaf AAL..struggling with leaving in the overload spring. I am installing 5100s all-around and OME888 coils up front which is about as much lift as I can buy with my budget...almost 3”. Should I leave the OL leaf in or not....I need a solid answer please. The ride quality plays second to lift and level on this question. I don’t have a shell or bumper....just want that day-2-day badass stance! Reagardless, it will take on the best of them.....thanks all!

I would leave it in. Its purpose is to keep the leafs from bending over backwards with a heavy load in the back, so it serves an important purpose

Installed HS 3-AAL with overload removed, what is everyone doing about the OEM brake line bracket that connected to the overload leaf? My brake lines are currently connected to just the upper bracket. Also, if I decide to place the overload back in, can I do so without removing my rear shock? My fox 2.0’s were hell to fit into the lower shock mount.
