Eventually I'll be doing a little resto job...actually 2. I have the Shopsmith my aunt and uncle built their house with in the late 40's- early 50's. It's pretty cool. It doesn't do any one thing great but it does a few things pretty well, but it's pretty cool to have. I also have their old "barn trolley". It rusted up solid but it'll get cleaned up and displayed somewhere fitting...and my old 1976 Honda MT250. But those are being as true retirement projects.

Yes occasionally for "friends" I will "HELP" them Redo an old machine I have many of my own and redone each one 3 still on deck to do strike that 4 . But probably 35 or 40 machines I have redone or me and another buddy who is into old machinery rebuilt. I do not think you can get a quality machine anymore for a home hobbyist with out spending thousands of dollars for industrial machines. The old machines and industrials were built the same , bearings can be replaced, no plastic parts etc. Hell even the old electrical motors are heavier duty not as efficient granted but can take a lot more abuse . I think I posted some of my machines on the old machinery thread here. Some time if you want I will gather them all with their dates of manufacture and post them somewhere .

Hit https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/index.php and http://www.vintagemachinery.org/ for your research on the Shop Smith I see tons of them for sale but .. not many get much money most people do not know what can be done with one if you have not much space it was the machine to have.

They are pretty much built for wood though. Even geared down they turn pretty fast. My uncle used it for a lot of years as a drill press with a really heavy drill press vice then he bought a small press that turned alot slower. It runs though, everything works. I have everything to go from drill press to table saw to lathe. There's a facebook page full of enthusiasts, some a little full of themselves, but good info (once you wade through the crap).

Want some bread or dinner rolls or donuts or any of that kinda stuff?

Judging by the deep layer of crud on the back of the truck, I'd say he's a pig farmer who has a line on stale bread.

It was in a collecting of cast iron at a place we stopped at in New Mexico. All that just to stitch brooms together.

Ahh so the straw behind it was a clue ;) I am always amazed at the engineering that went into the old machines . If you can find them a set of how things work volume 1 and 2 from the 50s have some cool machines and Audels manuals hell you can build the stuff just from the drawings and information in them.

Well I went to bed for a short nap at 1930. I knew better but did it anyhow. Got 2.5 hours sleep just enough to mess me up. Do a couple hours of work and then back to bed. Snow is supposed to quit at 0230 now hopefully I will be sleeping by then. And have to get up not too long after that to start on the driveway. Tomorrow night will sleep well.

Finally a bit of good news. The positive to the starter was covered in deposits. Cleaned it and it started right up. Now to return the new starter.
