What @Iggy said. The 1st gen is inside bed measurements are 0.38” wider and 0.75” shorter (DCSB, 0.39” shorter for the AC) than the 2nd gen. Those measurements work and it will fit the 1st gens nicely!

Just wanted to expand on this. The locking bar mechanism is inside and doesn’t obstruct the windows. Easily deployable from either the bed or while standing below. My V1 didn’t have one and I never felt that it was necessary. But with snow loads or heavy winds, one could easily deploy it for peace of mind. And without having to go outside.

Actually, you can open and lower the roof from inside and all the windows are designed to open and close from the inside. And the rear window was designed to open and roll down from the bed or while standing below. We didn’t extend it to the top, which would require climbing up to the bed, to open it. And from @MJonaGS32 ’s awesome pic, it’s obviously ample.

Our design may seem simple, but I just wanted to point out the thought that went into making everything functionally sensible.

Don’t even get me started on the latches...

The finished product is well thought out and it shows! I do have a question about the latches (sorry to get you started)... Is it possible to put them on the rear as in the flatbed prototype? Batwing style awnings need to extend to the corner to function, and the latch on the side would seemingly prohibit the latch from being accessible. Not a deal breaker for myself, just curious if they must be on the side or by request can be moved to the rear.

I was thinking the same thing about the latches and a 270 deg awning.

Quick question on the platform extension - I don't remember any means of securing it in the extended position. Just curious if it could slide forward/back on a steep climb for example.

Definitely a possibility, but the holes for the latches will likely be laser cut for the next round. If so, we can seal them with some aesthetic rivets and they’ll be covered with the awning anyways.

We placed them on the side so a rear awning could be easily mounted. I love the batwing awnings, but like using just the rear for ski resort/ rest stop/ National Park/ mall parking lots when I can only use one spot. Then deploy the side awning when camping.

This is a bad example, since the big awning was doing nothing. The camper created shade on the other side of the truck where everyone migrated.

You can see the rear side- mount latch though between the awnings.

When the tent is down that platform extension doesnt really move. With my blanket and pillow also up there and the lid closed, the whole thing compresses down

    This ^

There’s enough friction to keep it in place. And you sleep so much better when the truck is somewhat leveled!

Thanks, I thought that might be the case. Just wasn't sure whether there might be a little extra breathing room for bedding that would allow the platform some space to move around.

Great point about the limited parking spacing, Batwing could be tricky based on the situation. Well thought out sir, and nice shot of Dunder by the way!

I was along for the ride this weekend and got to witness the first 3 in action for myself.

A bunch of nuts with a mix of mid/long travel rigs bombing through the Mojave desert, plenty of washes, ruts, humps, donkey kicks and such. A good enough test that while keeping up with the group I managed to destroy an LCA on my truck...

I don't need to comment on how cool, convenient and practical these campers are, that's pretty much the reason you are all looking at them anyway. What has blown my mind is the strength and durability they showed while being put through their paces on this inaugural run. Holy crap these things are well built!

Sleek, simple, tough and with great attention to detail. I'm SERIOUSLY impressed - well done guys. If there was ever a camper you'd want to GO FAST with the Vagabond Drifter is the only choice

Went to Mojave with my new camper. It handled everything we threw at it. From going fast over washboard roads and washes to slow crawling. Couldn’t be happier with my Vagabond camper and how easy it made setting up and breaking down camp since we are on the move every day. So pumped!

If they charge as much as a real camper shell for a hybrid lumber rack with popup attached, they won’t last long... Inversely, if Vagabond lowers their prices in a race to the bottom no one wins. And we all know that won’t happen when people see the quality built into a Vagabond campershell. They have hit that sweetspot where quality engineering, unequaled craftsmanship, value and price point all equal to a superior product offered versus what the rest of the market profers up.
