2018 TRD PRO Grille w/ TSS-P Radar Info/DIY

After nearly 2 months of 2018 TRD Pro OEM grill drama, I finally got my hands on one. I went into a local dealer on a whim and asked the parts guy if he could get me the grill. He initially couldn’t find it in the system so I gave him the part number. He said there were 70+ grills available in the CA warehouse but were on hold pending VIN verification. I gave him a VIN for a used 2018 Pro that I “borrowed” off the net and he submitted it. I called him the next morning and he said they released the part and it should be in on Tuesday (today). Honestly, I wasn’t holding my breath and was expecting bad news at the last minute. I stopped by today and it was like Christmas morning when he walked out of the back with the box in hand haha.

He was very cool about things and he said that Toyota pulled the same BS with some FJ parts a while back. He gave me a discount on the grill but couldn’t match the prices off the net, which is totally understandable (it was only $20ish more but comes out almost even if you factor in shipping). He said that they probably won’t sell it that cheap next time and might add mark-up just because it’s in high demand. I guess I lucked out!

I ordered a Chinese knockoff from eBay seller yan-linm on 03/27/18 and it should be here shortly. If you’re in the LA area and want a knockoff TRD Pro grill without the long wait let me know. I just want what I paid for it (total with shipping was $133).

Damn! I'm in the LA area and I just ordered a chinese knock-off off ebay last week. Waiting on the shipment to arrive, which will probably another couple weeks. I tried to order one from a toyota dealer and I submitted a TRD Pro VIN i found online, but they cancelled my order the next day. You think if I re-used the same VIN you provided, they might send me an OEM 18' grill?

 

Anyone try Ernie Palmer Toyota for pro grille?

 

I just had an order in at Ernie Palmer for PT228-35180 got canceled Monday. thought It was going to get shipped but no go.

Am I the only one who thinks the stock 2018 off road grilles look halfway decent now and these pro grilles are getting a tad played out? Don’t get me wrong, the minute a cheaper 2018 is available again I will prob jump on it. But I’ll definitely not be Paying 4-500

 

Played out for Tacoma World maybe, but I rarely ever see a pro grille when I’m not on this site. I would say that a very very small percentage of non Pro Tacoma owners actually own a Pro grille.

 

Aren't the OR's the same as the Sport's? I've been taking a closer look at the SR5 grilles trying to figure out a way to make it more stylish. The corporate site shows the the SR5s a a dark gray, so a blended paint of matte black and BBP may have to be the answer. Heck, I'll even take a 2017 Sport grille if they'll work.

 

Sorry guys, maybe I took the last one that they allowed through? Placed order 6 days ago. They email me to ask for VIN. I give them a VIN on a local lot. They process. And it shipped. With garnish. For under 250. UPS says should be here tomorrow.

 

I ordered from them 10 days ago. Provided them with a VIN i found online, but my order got cancelled the next day. Bummer..

 

No, I don't have a lift. I read this too and may need to have mine recalibrated at the dealership. Thanks for the reply.

 

I'm lifted 2 1/2" in the front and did not re-calibrate. TSS works lovely!

 

Not sure actually. But the OR has a dark grille with chrome frame as opposed to all chrome cheese grater it used to have.

 

Yes. But funny you say that because there’s a guy that parks where I work with my same truck and the pro grille. So maybe that’s why I’m salty lol

When the freeze for the ‘18 grille comes off I’ll prob jump on one. I priced it all out with a ‘17 grille and even 10% off from conicelli Toyota and it was 460 shipped. Good price for everything, but if I can save almost 200 with getting the 2018, mind as well.

 

lol maybe. I too have a co worker with a 2017 Tacoma, but stock.

 

Thread request. The minute the freeze is off the 2018s, maybe a mod or Toyota guy can let everyone know? Wonder how long it will be.

 

Ernie Palmer is almost as bad as Keith Peterson. I wouldn't buy a lug nut from either. I tried KP first for mine and the guy said he would match the online price. I get there and he jacks the price up $25 because he says he is adding in shipping. I ask him if he is planning on shipping it to my house. He says no that he has to add in shipping to match the price. I then point out that I am not paying tax on the online order. If he is going to add in shipping then he should remove tax. I mean if you are going to match, you should match. I would have been fine paying tax buying it locally, but paying for shipping that wasn't being shipped was a bit extreme. He got real pissy and at that point I walked out.

I ended up ordering it from a dealer in Ga. Shipping to Jax was only $27. If you order from further away shipping goes up substantially. UPS and FedEx gouge on shipping because the size of the box.
