My job is fine but years of paying off debt & living well under my means is the key. Plus being a double income no kids setup let us pay cash for lots of things like vacations.

Oh, I understand it. I just don't adhere.
I suck at budgeting. I don't "save". I have debt. I like to spend money. I'm single. I live my one life as if it's my one life. And I'm happy, most days.

 

Single life for me was a modified 350Z years ago. Lots of fun down on Tail of the Dragon. I would have a rig like @tacofort if I was single these days.

Yeah, debt free is the way to be though.

No debt for 6 years now. Was instrumental with having kids. Emily (wife) was able to stay home and go back to work when she was ready. It was tight, especially with two kids but not being straddled by payments really helped. It makes it really hard to buy new cars and stuff though, because now that I am used to NOT having payments, I dont want one. I feel like a cheap ass but, they come up with these $300-$400 a month payments and my butthole puckers pretty hard.

 

You should just move in. lol, head to the town and buy all the things needed to make it your home and just live there. lol.

 

My current gf is ok with my truck spending as long as I don't have an excuse not to do some activity she wants me to do with her due to me buying truck parts. Only reason I have what I do is living well below my means. Anybody can do it.

Apparently, avoiding the bar most of the time pays for all manner of modifications.

 

Wife & a 10 month old take all my truck spending now. And having a single shared account keeps me from making some impulse purchases of truck parts. Works for us but there are times when I miss our separate accounts.

 

I know what you mean. I've talked with my gf about moneys and spending and separate accounts. We'll see how this all goes. Like anything else, she knows what I plan to do this year for the truck and what that looks like.

 

If she works, separate is better.

She makes about as much as me, lives with roommates, so pays very little in rent, is allowed to use company vehicle for personal use. She has more disposable income than me. LOL
