Yeah that was definitely a big reason I stopped riding here. Once I get away from all the people I'll feel a little better about riding on the street again.

Back on winching shut off. Looking at this switch it could possibly be right on the threshold for operation. I might need a friend to go up and help me with some current draw tests. If it is only right at threshold for operation within rated limits a higher amperage switch might be better. It is ok for Toyota starter operation because they only run in the 200 amp range, peak in the 300ish area, not sure about the winch motors as they are larger and load different.

    Plethora of "useless" shit
If I recall the one I posted is rated at 600A intermittent for up to 5 mins according to the Bluesea specs, which should be fine for winching since you are typically on/off and never on for 5 mins continuous.

Edit: just verified, it is 600A intermittent and not 650A

It's a very rare problem, but having first hand experience with a run away Winch, it's not fun trying to figure out how to stop the thing before it pulls something through your rig. Just watch the youtube video's of everyone frantically beating on solenoid with whatever they can trying to disable it. But 99.9% of us will hopefully never experience this issue

Easy solution, few ever think of under the pressure, is pulling the positive off the Battery.

Oh wow never thought that was an issue.... I thought everyone concern was constant power intake.

That's crazy tho! Never knew there was such thing as a runnaway winch. I have my negative wire connected right beside my winch so if it does happen I can just yank that

It might not be getting fuel. How's the tank? I had that issue on an older bike, and it was bits of rust clogging up the fuel lines. I took the tank out, filled it up with old bolts and apple cider vinegar, left it for a few days shaking it around whenever I remembered to and it cleaned it up pretty good.

A straight line is no good, you need a fuse or timer something for short circuit protection... I don't remember if it was here or a Ranger forum where a guy did that and his winch caused a fire. He just came outside and the front end of his truck had burnt up.

Well has yet to happen to me:fingerscrossed: but this is my third winch all warn. So idk what cause his to catch fire but I know I'm not the only one that ran a winch straight with no problems.

This is the first time me hearing negative things on wiring winches straight to the battery. Even in the warn manual it doesn't say you need fuse/circuit breaker or what not. So maybe it's smittybilt or superwinches that causes these problems. Idk

That's actually what I first thought, but he said the tank was sent out to get cleaned up. I was surprised though, whoever he had rebuild it there in PWest didn't replace any lines, they are in rough shape

I started looking at the ones we use on our heavy equipment. But I haven’t checked what they can handle. These are 24volt systems.

Alright folks. I want to pull the trigger on a OBA set up. Nothing crazy but not bare minimum. Tires are not huge so I'm wondering if a viair medium duty system would be good. What did you guys go with?

Weird... I don't know what shops are out in pwest. In Pueblo I used to go to Tote-gote and I know for a fact he has fuel lines, and the cone filters, I've bought a few there, they're on a big spool. But it has been awhile since I was into bikes.

In the past when people have asked the two main replies they get are to go all out with an ARB twin or to just use one of the super cheap MV50s. There arent too many people out there using something in between although I have heard of a few who use VIAIR.
