was F'in around over the weekend and put this together. Whats the consensus? keep it or not?

If i keep it i would have to make it water tight at the locations indicated, wouldn't be to difficult.

Check your local Ace or True Value for flat red rubber washers like the ones found inside the female end of a hose. A little silicone on the underside of the washer and a flat SS washer on top should probably give you a good watertight seal at the bolts.
Think that is a pretty cool idea for a storage box.
How did you attach it to the rail?

2 proxy mine fuse boxes mounted to the rails. Used needed hardware to T-nuts in the rails. 2 different size rubber washers stacked, 1 bonded rubber/metal washer, 1 rubber only washer. The seal of the can is more than adequate to keep water and mud out. These are from the 70's-ish.

I didn't use any spacers between the rail and can. Maybe should've. But they do rattle and it's bothersome.
So, I happen to work where rubber sheeting in various thicknesses is available and found some unused 1/2" rubber. Cut a chunk and stuffed between the can and bedside. Wouldn't hurt if it was 3/4", but that would've needed taken from inventory and not free :)

It's not a pretty solution, but honestly, I'm digging it. It would be a great way to store tie downs and whatnot..... easily accessible, out of the way, I might mount it so the weight was on the wheel well and maybe paint it black, but overall, not bad.

Even the taller "50" cans aren't tall enough to mount to the rail so the lid can open, AND rest on the wheel well.

While I personally think it's a neat solution, in light of the recent climate, I'm not sure having visible ammo boxes strapped inside one's truck bed is a wise move.
