Saw this question asked and sifted through all the posts so unless I missed it here it is again.... What differentiates long wheelbase vs super long? Assuming LWB is a shortbed and SLWB is a longbed Have had the howl since I purchased the truck new but it hasn't bothered me enough to bring it up to service as it's always been a constant noise and never increased or brought about any other problems. I can reproduce it on demand anywhere between 50 and 60 so hopefully the dealership doesn't give me too much hassle.

Yea.. it's definitely the rear diff on my truck. Relates directly to them the input and I can feel the extra baxklash in the drive train...

Check out the big thread. Lots of people have had the TSB and it usually reduces the noise by 75% or more. Only a few have mention complete silence after, but most have been very happy.

No go for any 2018’s. They haven’t even opened it up to all 2016-2017 models. My dealer opened a DPR for my rear end howl and harsh 2nd to 1st downshift. I guess the more dealers that issue DPRs the sooner 2018’s will get a fix.

Yeah that's what he told me. Toyota needs more issues. He was straight up with me told me they officially don't know about it. But he has had a few dozen fixed him self.he said the only thing that has really fixed it was replacing the rear diff. I'll report back when I pick it up tonight after they replace mine.

I hope that fixes the problem for you but don't be shocked if the new diff makes noise too.

Just picked up the truck today. No noise yet .Only time will tell now. They are sending audio recording pictures and the rear diff back to Toyota for their Investigation.

Good stuff! Glad they took care of you. Also happy to hear they are sending all the info to Toyota, too. The more data they get the better.

Just dropped my TRD OR DCLB off for 20k service and to have this TSB done. Mine has had this harmonic hum since day 1 of ownership. Never been that big of a deal to me but since Toyota has released a TSB I decided to get it done as well.

Service department gave me no hassle. Confirmed the noise. Ordered the parts. Should be here anytime from 10 days to 1 month (parts on national backorder as others have stated here). I will report back once they do the install and post up the results.

Mine has gotten a louder since the TSB. Its still reduced but I don't understand why it's still evolving . I understand the parts are still wearing in but good lord i couldn't imagine what it would be like without patch. I wish one day they recall it with a redesign I just don't see that happening.

Well that’s not good to hear. How loud is it now compared to pre TSB?

Been waiting on backordered parts for 3 weeks now. Was a pain in the ass to get the dealer to even acknowledge it. I even had to bring copies of the tsb to show them. They kept saying they had no clue and have never seennor heard anything like this.

I'm probably up to about 50-60% reduced instead of the 75 80 i was at.

Ah, that kind of stinks. Hopefully everything has settled in now and it won’t get worse. I’d let the dealer know though. The more data they have on this fix the better. I would imagine if enough people started to notice the whine get louder post TSB that they would have to update the fix. Wishful thinking I suppose haha

Anyone that hasn’t let their dealer know they have the whine please do. Ask them to do a DPR if you are a non TRD or access cab. Every bit of data helps.

Went to get my 15,000 mile service and have them verify the noise. No problem. Parts are ordered and will make an appointment to do the fix when they come in. The noise never really bothered me as it was clearly just noise (all gears make noise), but as long as they have a TSB reducing the noise I'll take it.

Taking mine in tomorrow for the T-SB - 4 weeks from diagnosis and parts order. Went ahead and removed everything behind the back seats so I can install additional noise dampening materials along the back cab panel and storage box flooring. Wow is it noisy with the storage bins and vapor barrier removed when the rear seats are down. Lots of road noise through the vents and sheet metal. You would sware the doors are open and windows are down.
