Got some down time, but I REALLY didnt want to be outside in this damn windy crap for another day in a row.

Power marked the spot again when I was out there setting the posts, so hopefully I'll drive by and see a new power pole one of these days. My "hookup" with a backhoe I could use is as reliable as a Craigslist person... which is slowing down any progress I wanted to make with the septic or carving in a driveway.. or scraping the foundation area.

I could do it with a smaller machine, but a full size backhoe would be the easiest for what I need. So I've been mulling the decision of buying an older one vs renting. You can plate them AFAIK which would be nice to drive from where Im staying to the property since trailering one means CDL and a bigger truck. I'd be bummed if I couldn't get the Chevy I was wanting... just have to make sure my cousin gets a 3500 to haul the beast around.

But rental prices are better than I recall and I think I can get it done in one day with the ground being nice and thawed. I may schedule it for this weekend. Naturally as has been my luck every time I have a free day, its now supposed to rain and snow on Friday. I need to call back and see if the cab is enclosed and/or heated!

For the low cost, I would sheet in the floor. It running off the same posts you put there so why not have a level wood floor?

Plus it eliminates that gap that otherwise would be there between wall and dirt you can't avoid unless you want to wick up moisture and rot out the wall in 3 years.

I'm always helpful spending other people money! :D

Meh... if it was enclosed I would have more reason, but with one side open, it'll just be a place to hold dirt/rain/snow anyways so I dont want to waste the lumber I can use elsewhere. Sheeting the floor would entail fully building the floor, joists, bolting it on, another post or four for support across that span... easily doubling the cost of the completed shed.

Right now I'm thinking about just using one of the outputs of the outdoor wood furnace to heat the greenhouse(s). Should be simple enough to put a radiator in there to keep it warm later/earlier in the year. But not completely sure of that yet. The water solution I will do for sure though. Cheap and effective with or without another heat source. I really want to tackle building one though since I know I'll be behind the curve for actually growing anything this season if I dont hurry up.

Yeah, I'm not exactly sure of what it entails to be able to legally tow 20k+ pounds. But I'm trying to avoid that hurdle for now. But I'll probably be looking into the CDL anyways since the station wants everyone to have theirs.

Well if anyone wants to brave the possibly wet and likely windy and cold weather on Friday... To play with a backhoe I'll be digging the septic holes.

I'm guessing the quarry will be closed due to weather and my dump trailer is still full of junk until Saturday so I won't be back filling with sand until Saturday.

Watching a bunch of geothermal videos this morning... This is why I'll need my own machinery, for future experimentation!

I have the septic mostly laid out but going to swing by today and make sure it's completely marked out so I'm ready to dig first thing tomorrow.

Marked out the locations today and checked what depths i need for everything.

The ground is thawed, so I'm hoping it shouldn't take long and that way i can carve in the driveway and maybe start digging where I'll want to put the house while i have the big machine.

My posts for the shed are all still plumb and beautiful and can withstand the prairie hurricane winds.

    Progress happened.

Holes for septic tank and leach field as well as connecting runs for piping were dug.

Made two entrances, scraped the driveway and a clean spot for the greenhouse. Kinda scraped the foundation area. Backhoe wasnt working well for that project.

    0406181746.jpg

Next up, clean up the holes for inspection. Then install the junk.

Tomorrow hoping the dump is open to get rid of trash in the dump trailer then maybe score a load or two of gravel to make the driveway less dusty... And get to use the spreader hate that I'm excited to use. Would love to get the tanks and piping installed before vacation but we'll see.
