I'm well within my allowable tow weight with a 4200# trailer, I get how the GCVW works. I just wanted to know what the dude's trailer weighed because it looked to be around the same size as mine. I asked for dry weight because it's listed on the side of his trailer. And if you're towing 6060 with a Taco you best be towing on the prairies or not care about your motor. If I say I'm not towing with water then I'm not towing with water. Fughck.

I've only brought it home so far. Couple of short hills and my initial gut feeling is that this trailer is too heavy for a Taco. I towed dry and with another 1000# of gears it's going to be tough with some of the grades I'm going to face heading up into the interior of British Columbia. There's no way out of the lower mainland where I live that doesn't have some killer climbs other than heading down into Washington State. It'll tow it but you sure know it's there. I'll let you know in a month what it was like getting it out for our first run. On the plus side breaking was excellent.

 

Hi Troy, the dry weight of this trailer is around 3200 lbs. We towed it with mostly empty tanks (we did have 2 full propane tanks) but 2 weeks worth of gear/clothing.

Yes, you will definitely know it is there. On my recent trip to the US, we had a few big hills to contend with (e.g. Monida Pass at 6870 feet) and we certainly didn't break any speed records but my Taco pulled it fine without too much stress. I think we may have revved up slightly above 3200 rpm at that stretch but it handled it well...fuel economy wasn't great however. After that I made it a point of filling the tank when it got to 50%. Glad your braking is good...going down those hills, especially on icy roads, is not much fun either! Best wishes on your journeys!!

Spring over is already in my plans, this is my new base camp home.

 

Not towing in this one, but lol Kept off the freeway and took it easy to the dump. Stucco debris and crap the neighbors wanted gone.

 

What about towing the Tacoma? Lol

 

Brand new Lance 1575. Was pulling it with my wifes 2018 BMW X1, which can actually tow just over 4K pounds when equipped with the proper hitch. The Taco does just fine, as this TT weighs in at only 3,100 pounds. Headed to St Augustine next weekend!

 

Looks like you may be slightly high on the front of the trailer if I'm seeing it right. It should be level or slightly lower. Higher is never good because on extreme braking it can raise the back of the truck and take weight off the rear tires.

 

hey longhiker- can you show us a image of the camera backing up? I would like to see how much of the trailer shows on the camera and if its way better than extending the side mirrors.

You're correct....good eye! My initial setup of the Equal-i-zer WD hitch was slightly off. Fortunately I haven't gone more than 10 miles with this setup, it was just a trial run for the Tekonsha P3 brake controller at speeds below 50 MPH. After doing it properly with before and after measurements from ground to the tops of the wheel wells, I needed to lower the shank and add 1 more washer to get the overall attitude of the rig leveled out. There are gobs of really good YT vids on how to do this properly, and the hitch instructions are detailed as well.

 

I tow a similar trailer size and weight with my 12 Tacoma and it took me a couple of tries to get my equalizer hitch perfect. I have since bought a 18 Tacoma over the winter and hoping that everything will be the same for the set up.

 

Towing this 1800 miles starting the 21st and will post the results and how it goes. Cargo including driver and gear comes in at 11210. 50 lbs under max weight. Both trailer and truck is within each rated limits. The weigh safe hitch I used to see tongue weight said a little over 600 (which has been removed for the Anderson WD hitch) I'm just unaware of each axle weight. Assisting with it all is a P3 brake controller and an Anderson weight distribution hitch.

Looking for any tips and advice if possible. Not trying to prove anything, just want to make this a safe move. Will NOT be going any faster than 55 mph. Thanks!
