Smart consumer. I looked at the entire field of trucks; Ford, GM, DODGE....
    same conclusion.
Best value over all. And we won't even talk about resale down the road...

Oh, and a 10 Speed automatic transmission with a 4 cyl? Gonna have to take a test drive someday.

Got my truck back on 3/22, after 45 days of sitting on their lot; 7 e-mails to dealership management and dealership ownership, and Toyota Corp. Management; 8 certified letters and 26 phone calls. The calls alone total 13 hrs., 35 mins of my time. And I'm still not done. I'm waiting for Toyota to explain WHAT happened. At this point, it appears both the dealership and Toyota were at fault, but I'll explain more when/if I get a better explanation. I'm to have a conference call soon.

I like the truck, but this is too much to tolerate. I.e., I remember my younger days when she would have to be exceedingly hot to expend this much time and energy!

Today I was driving my 17 under 10mph. I had to jam the brakes for a sudden stop. The tires started to slide, but not enough to activate the ABS. I was going down hill and the truck pitched forward as it stopped. Tank was half full.

When I got back in the truck after a short stop, I tabbed over to tank mileage. It had been 19 and now it was 12 and climbing quickly. Obviously it had reset recently.

All trip meters were still correct though. Is it possible the sudden stop sloshed the gas and fooled the truck into thinking the tank was full long enough to reset the tank mpg?

Well I wasn't sure. I didn't read all the pages and didn't know if there were any other instances of the tank mpg resetting without the trips resetting. Thanks

No worries. That's interesting the computer would change tank level just by hard braking but I could see it happening if the cpu was reading at the same time. But the tsb it reset trip A and B to zero and the tank avg was reset with that. So if it wasn't zeroing the trips then I'd say it was a fluke thing. Think most of these were on earlier '16 production models like mine.

A couple of times that mine reset, before the TSB, they were after going over large bumps/RR tracks. I thought about the same thing regarding the fuel. However, I remember both trip meters reset as well. Since the TSB, I've had no resets, even in the same circumstances as before.

Along with the trip odos, the per-tank fuel mileage meter was also resetting on my '16. Since the TSB was applied, I've had no further problems with the trip odos, but it's only been a couple weeks since I got it back. Will take much longer before I consider it fixed.
But, back to the fuel mileage meter... mine failed last week, just a week after getting the truck back. No bumps of rough roads involved; I started truck and, while still in the parking lot, I checked mileage and it was at 3 MPG.
I still get the occasional call from the Toyota "Executive Office," but, to date, they've done nothing.

    Update:
My truck had approximately 17 reset events over 10K miles, after which the TSB was complied with.
    Current odo on truck: 25K.
Miles driven since TSB compliance: 15K
    Conclusion: Truck repaired.

Update: I got thru to Toyota Corp. their message to me...Toyota USA is for the continental US and Alaska. Hawaii is thru Servco. I must put my claims thru Servco, Toyota isn’t handling it. Well fuck me. Chances are this ain’t gonna get fixed no matter how much I complain now since Servco has a monopoly in Hawaii they could give a crap about us. I will try and go they Servco but I am being realistic about it, most likely nothing is gonna happen.

I can't believe this is still a thing. I had mine replaced at least a year and a half ago. Did Toyota ever make it a recall or campaign. I think I had around 7k miles on it and I did go through Corporate. At the time they "claimed" mine was the 2nd one in the country. Never had another reset since then.

Lucky you. I know it is unlikely to be a recall because it’s not critical to safety. But it would be nice for those of us that do have the issue and a dealer that don’t care.

Well my dealer didn't care and they really didn't know about the problem(s). Just like all my first 6 month issues I had to make videos or get receipts from other members to prove my case. And all that evidence did no good at the dealer. I still had to go through Corporate to get things done. I blamed Corporate for not sharing info and fixes with dealers. I don't blame dealers for not knowing problems exist but they should care about customer concerns. I blame Toyota for only passifying those who scream the loudest. I would expect good dealer treatment on a new $12k vehicle just as much as a $30k+ vehicle.

TC has been trying to contact me over the past few weeks, finally got a chance to get back to them and was informed that the dealership got my combo meter in. I haven't heard from the dealership in over a month so I figured the part was still on back order.

While talking to TC, the rep got the Service Manager from my local dealership on the line so I could set up a good date/time to take my truck in. Was told the job was only going to take an hour - hour and a half. Dropped it off today and as soon as I got back to work, I got a call from the dealership. Service rep said they have to send the new meter in so the milage can be set to the current milage on my truck and that I couldn't drive my truck.

WTF?! Thought that portion was done in house, but not according to the service rep. I'm still in disbelief of what he said and wondering if the part even came in or not. The rep said this could take a week which makes me think the part isn't there. Either way, they were going to give me a loaner vehicle for the time being so I can't really be pissed. Just don't want my truck stuck there for a day, let alone a week (or longer).

Bright the bright side, the loaner is a Taco.

Got my truck back last week, dealership ended up having it for a little over two weeks.

Now to give it some time to see if the issue is gone and find some cloth that won't scratch the clear plastic on the cluster.

Your new truck got a bad part. Get the new part and you'll be happy. At least you wont have to go through the initial phases when the glitch was first being realized.
