Anyone have any recommendations for places to see around the Alvord Desert. I might be looking for a place to camp there next week.

Yep. Hart mtn got springs before you get there, camp. Next morning to alvord drive thru all the mud and don't get stuck. There's a road on the east side that will take you up thru some bad back tracks to another hot springs. Soak, camp. Back to hart; soak, camp. Return to bend via crack in the ground. Might be a little chilly out that way.
    Wild horses.
I need a map to show the route but I'm sitting in an empty apartment in pdx. When are you planning to go, this weekend or next?

Leaving this Friday down to Moab and Southern Utah then heading from there up through southeast Oregon to I-5 then back up to Washington. I figure on being around Alvord like on the 22nd-ish.

Egg cell ant. Sounds like a fun trip. Overland expo in Phoenix in may.
There is a hot springs on the west side of the desert. Usually over run when I go down. Maybe not now tho. Really can't go wrong around there. Plan on some cold/ snow.

Hey y'all. I'm heading down into Oregon late tomorrow night to ski bachelor before a party weekend in Bend lol. I don't have a place tomorrow night so I threw the RTT on. Does anybody have any suggestions for an easy place to pop out the tent besides walmart? Would be cool if there was some quieter place that was easy to just pull off and crash.

    Thanks!

You can camp in bachelors parking lot if you wanted to do that, other than that you could go out china hat or skyliner. Right now there isn't a ton of camping on the way to the mountain because cascade lakes highway is closed.

I was looking into that. I'm in the camping lot at my local mountain every weekend... but never camped at another mountain. I'm just not sure what to expect rolling up in there late this time of year. Probably will have room on a thursday night...

Is China Hat out of the way much?

I'm sure they will have space for you. And yeah, Chinahat is probably 1 hour from the mountain, it's on the South East side of bend.

Rats a little far out of the way. Looks like a cool spot with no fee though! Right now I'm just leaning towards driving to the mountain...

More I look at it... Skyliners road seems pretty nice. Is there lots of snow up there right now?

Probably not to much. The one thing I will say is that there are no designated campsites, so you kinda just drive down a dirt road and decide where you want to pitch your tent. I'm not sure if you can "legally" camp out there but I've never been bothered. If you can make it to the top of Triangle Peak, that is the best camp spot in central oregon.

Dude that's just my style hahaha

Thanks for the advice! I'm probably just gonna take the first spot in I can find to make for a short commute to the mountain

There's a ton of places off of skyliner road. Forrest service just opened it up a week ago or so, its close to tetherow. I was up off skyliner shooting yesterday, little to no snow up there rn.

sounds like fun, that is if you guys don't mind hanging around teenagers. I'm only 18. Met a guy in town a few days ago and asked him about his truck. Told me I was to young and that'd never be able to afford his mods and that it wouldn't matter if he told me or not. I doubt it was any of you guys but I thought I'd ask.
