Drove 150 miles of highway today in mode 2. Usually I would have it in "D" with ETC on. The SSP was much better than "D" w/ ETC.

Did however switch it to mode 3 on my drive home from work and didn't feel a difference from mode 2. Will test more this weekend.

Great product but I’ve decided to sell my v2 SSP as I’m just not using it (purchased 3 months ago). Bought it for mode 3 towing but my lightweight pop-up isn’t as much of a challenge to tow as I anticipated. Asking $140 shipped. Mint condition.

For anyone curious, and in a situation like mine with 35/12.5/18 tires, SSP + OVTune is massively awesome. Running map 3 on the SSP and the power delivery combined with the raised shift points is spot on. Just needs 4.88s now to be perfect.

Count me as one who didn't hate the OEM transmission programming. I did know it could be better. I figured the Shiftsense being inexpensive I would give it a try. I now consider it a no-brainer, must have!

Well I think it's a good help, but Toyota screwed up with the 3.5 Atkinson it builds its power at too high RPM's. I loved the SSPro while I was in the southern states especially Florida! But here in New York the mountains won't let the truck shift to lowered the rpms so I average 14.5 mpg. I recently towed 3 motorcycles in a enclosed trailer to Daytona beach and averaged 10 mpg. I figured it wasn't going to be good. I started the trip with 2800 miles on her in SSPro mode 3. On the hills it would shift down to 3rd gear at 75 mph and the rpms were around 52-5500, absolutely singing. So About 3/4's of the 3400 miles I was in 4th gear and turning 3500 rpms. I was thinking she was going to explode, either the transmission or motor but it held together! I called dealership to trade in and they don't want it. I believe they know how bad they are! I love my Toyota's but losing faith. Praying they fix the torque converter so they can hold a higher gear without downshifting so badly!

I feel your pain. Returned last Saturday from south Texas. 700 miles with a 3100 lb travel trailer. The SSP in mode 3 which was a big improvement over regular Drive. Most of the trip the transmission held in fourth with a few up shifts to fifth. Pulled at 70 mph at just over 3,000 rpm and a good tailwind. Averaged 10.5. In Oklahoma we had a headwind so the transmission shifted to third going up nearly every hill and was running about 5,000 rpms. MPGs dropped to 9. NEVER used the useless cruise control. And I wouldn’t push the truck to hold a steady speed.

Fortunately we didn’t buy this truck to tow. We are planning a very short trip with the TT in June and then will sell the TT. I am seriously considering the OVTUNE. It really chaps my @## that Matt has developed a program that allows the Tacoma to function like it should and Toyota thumbs its nose at the consumer stating it is operating as designed.

I took the Taco in for regular maintenance yesterday. I found a used 2018 white Limited on the lot. I asked a salesman I knew to tell me about the truck. ( I want leather). He looked around and said “You have a 2017 and you know about the transmission. The owner traded this Limited for a Tundra).” It had 3,000 miles. I asked him about a possible trade for my TRD Off Road. He grinned and said we can’t even get close. He pointed to another third gen and said that one was traded for a Tundra as well.

I feel your pain as well! I should have gotten the 2017 platinum tundra! Now it looks like OV tune to the rescue? Just have some questions first?

Just received mine in the mail today, planning to install tomorrow. The installation instructions recommend that the negative battery terminal be disconnected before install begins. Just curious if most people are doing this when installing ShiftSense Pro or is this more precautionary?

I think I'll be selling my SSPro and getting a ovtune, what's a fair price? It's only a month old. I don't think I need it because they address the transmission with the tune.
