I'd want a new truck, not a new frame. Too much time for the job and too big of a chance it won't come out 100% right. Push for that total loss. Sorry about your luck.

That’s what I would be doing. Straight to the dealer.

Had this happen to me on Monday when a f150 pulled in front of me on a 70mph highway to make an illegal u turn...

Still awaiting the accident report for determining fault...

    Workin' on it....
Maybe a good reason to go with an aluminum plate bumper over steel - at least it will fold a little easier.

It probably did, which is more reason to assume he literally pulled right in front of me. TSS didn't have enough time to properly stop to prevent this. Again it all happened so fast. Cruising at 70 mph with no traffic on the highway whatsoever..

First thought was my brand new truck that was just leaving the Tint shop. Then the day after recovering some personal belongings I have to say I'm lucky I didn't get seriously injured.

This, but its hard to tell for sure on the description without seeing the area.. If OP is at fault that DVC goes right out the window.

Most likely wont go to arb, if any dispute will most likely be a comp/neg situation and will split liab

It's pretty remarkable to walk away from an accident at 70mph. Glad you're ok. It seems these 3rd gens are extremely safe.

Here is a shitty diagram I drew up really quick on my phone. It shows the 2 cars turning right onto the street I was coming from. They both had there blinkers on and as soon as the 1st car started to turn right is when I started to pull out to make a right into that lane. I got most of the way out when the car from the inside lane made a lane change and hit me. I was in that lane first so that's why I feel he is at fault. But now he's completely lying and saying there weren't any other cars on the road and that he was driving down the outside lane and I just pulled out and hit him. The next thing I buy for my truck will be a dash cam. My insurance company is taking it to arbitration and said it will probably be about 6 months before it's settled.

Fight to get it totaled out and get a new truck. That truck will never be the same after some shady shop rebuilds it. They aren't an assembly line, and they won't be doing it to factory spec. Also, your resale value will be shot. Nobody wants a dirty carfax, and any dealership will use that carfax against you in trade in value. I had a dealer tell me they wouldn't take a car that had a bad carfax (which wasn't even a legit problem). The carfax was due to an error, but one dealership wouldn't take the trade.

dang, sorry to hear about your truck. I'm now partial about buying a Tacoma. This is the 3rd truck I've heard of that had substantial frame damage from a minor fender bender because of an aftermarket bumper. The bumper is supposed to protect the truck and not be the catalyst in causing more damage than what would have been pretty minor. Probably be better to leave the stock bumper alone so it crushes itself instead of bending the whole frame.

Well what else would happen if you bolt a rigid piece of steel to a rigid frame? Something has to give. It's leverage. No truck out there is immune from physics.

So would it be better not to put rigid upgraded bumpers?

Rigid bumpers are meant for support of winches and taking out brush or sliding across trees.
In an accident they directly transfer impact to the frame potentially causing more damage.

That being said, I have taken out a nissan maxima with no damage to my frame.

Good luck OP with the insurance.

Your diagram of your accident does not help your case. Get it out of public view.
