2010 access cab subwoofer removal

Can anyone tell me how to take this walmart quality sub woofer out.
I can only find two fasteners under a small access panel on the bottom.
I don't want to pry it off and end up breaking it.
I see where Mr Marv is designing some replacement ideas, but nothing made up yet. I didn't see any removal tips however.

Basically there are four tabs on the sides of the sub. You have to squeeze in the sides of the sub and it will come out. If I remember right, there is a cover that comes off the bottom (maybe the top)also that has a bolt or two that needs to come off. The rear firewall cover does NOT have to be removed.

subscribed. i am also looking to replace the speakers in my 2010 access cab as well, does anyone know the size of the speakers that are in there now?

 

go to crutchfield.com. enter your model and it will tell you what fits. I believe 6x9 fit the front doors.

 

does it also tell you the size of the little sub in the door as well?

 

Access.. Tweets and either 6x9 or 6.5s in front doors with 6.5s in rear access doors.

 

i dont have speakers in the access doors, just in the front

yes, they did put 2 speakers in the roof, and they have horrible quality. toyota did put a regular speaker, and a sub in the front doors though

 

I've never seen a sub with a magnet the size of a quarter

 

There is a little trick to removing the sub cover.

First you have to pop the clips at the top to give you room to get you fingers in about half way down. Next you have to pry the sides outwards like the arrows shows. Thats where I had trouble, I saw pictures that others had posted, but you can't really see those bars that snap on in the middle. Look closely right where the inside of the arrows are. Once those middle bars are off, you can pop the remaining 4 clips on the lower half, and the whole cover slides off. A few bolts later and the whole sub is out. Also, it's easier to remove the cover that goes around the on off switch after the main cover is off.

 

Ilg - you may have solved my problem too.... I tried to take the sub out of my '09 Access Cab and gave up because I didn't want to break it. I think it might be that I wasn't pulling outward on the sides. That wasn't clear in any of the other threads on getting that weird looking thing out of there.

I'm about to the point now where I'd GIVE it to someone who wants it, in exchange for the parts and pieces needed to cover up the mounting holes in the rear panel.

Thanks for all the help, now that I know where to pry it should come right off.
I went to Car Toys the other day to see if they had anything that would replace the factory sub, when they took a look at that funky sub I almost got laughed out of the store. It was the first they had seen, they couldn't believe Toyota put that in the truck.
I'll try and find time to get that off today. Then start looking for a shallow mount sub box to cover up the hole between the seats.

 

I am not sure why Toyota would put in this stupid subwoofer in the first place.

Once you know how to remove the subwoofer it is EASY. First you will need tools (t20 torx screwdriver & 10mm socket wrench). You might want a flashlight to see bottom 2 bolts.

Once the cover is off, I would HIGH RECOMMEND taking out the center console. There are 4 10mm bolts inside the console. It will help to get to the 2 bottom bolts.



Then Pull off the nob switch (off-on-light on), then take out the 4 t20 torx screws. Once that is off there will be another piece right below it and it just pulls off. ** make sure it is in the off position**

This is the hardest part: there will be 2 bolts and electrical plug left to take out. The bottom bolts are the similar setup as the top bolts, harder to get to and see. Once you take out the bottom bolts then it will be easy to unplug the power source to the subwoofer.
