Yes, there is more stuff to break, but in reality, if you take care of it, it'll last a long time and you won't spend much more except the occasional diff fluid change. Follow the maintenance guide, operate the 4wd on a wet day for about 10 miles every month and it should be just fine. You also might have to replace the CV boots after a long time.

If you abuse it, it'll probably break and cost more.

Around here 4X4s really hold their value much better than a 2wd, but there is a little up front cost.

Yeah the value they hold is a big factor for me, here in Louisiana they're highly desired

Have you considered private party sale and buying a new truck after that?

The only problem with that is what I would take to work in the mean time. My wife works full time too. That, and I'd also have to be able to jump on a new vehicle if one that I wanted was available, and it seems like a problem to time the 2 things perfectly

Welp, I'm in Baton Rouge. I would have bought a used truck, but the prices they asked for pushed me to buy new.

You can tell by reading this thread who's a Dave Ramsey apostle. I get being cheap, I really do, but my God some of you are some cheap b@stards! I have a hard time believeing most of these "wait until you're 55 with one foot in the grave before buying a new truck" stories. Why can't you buy a new truck on credit AND still put money aside for other things? Guess what, I've done it! I'll admit I'm cheap when it comes to certain things but I'm not going to be a miserable person until I retire so I can cruise around Florida in a Cadillac with my blue haired wife. That's not living. You can be happy now AND plan for retirement. My advice to the OP is this, drive the SR awhile longer, bump your payments up to $300 a month, then come this fall decide if you still have the itch or not. You'll have built more equity into your truck and maybe decide to keep it or see what the 2019's bring. I always pay a little more when I had payments, drove the bank nuts. They hate my ass.

When I bought mine, they didn't want to sell me one for much less than MSRP.... actually quite a few locally were like that. My neighbor just got an 18 and did pretty good locally..... but I think he did a trade in. Not sure how he did on that.

I'm with DLRIII, I think it's weird to pay that much cash out at once. But that's me.

Yes timing it perfectly will be more difficult. If you have a buyer for your truck with a little flexibility and you are flexible on the color and maybe options on your new truck you can probably make it work. Especially if you have a couple of local dealers. If you are set on ordering a rare model it would probably be easier to trade in.

If you sold your vehicle, you could rent a cheap little economy car to drive for a couple of weeks or so until you find a good deal on another vehicle.

It’s easy to do online with just a credit card.

Priceline is advertising “from 10.95 a day” on their website.

I rented a decent Mazda 3 in California several years ago for $14.00 per day.

I started off with a bid for $20.00 and it was excepted by the company.

I then wondered how low they would go. So I signed off from the site, logged back in and bid $18.00. It was accepted again.
That was interesting. So I logged out again, then signed in for a bid of $12.00 which was rejected.

Next sign in was $14.00, which was accepted.

It was the first time I had used the site and was curious to see how it would work.

    Just a thought.

    Update:

I went by a local dealership and test drove an SR5 with the V6 and decided Its worth the higher note to trade in my SR. Gonna get a new 18 with all the added safety features. Going to pick it up on Saturday, now I'll be a part of team quicksand.

Paid cash for my last house. Paid cash for my last vehicle. Use my credit cards but pay off the charged balance each month. Zero debt.
Still have a good chunk in savings/invested.
    But that is just me.

In all fairness I use to finance vehicles and homes. Once I got out of debt, I like staying that way.

Same here haha. There would be no reason to finance if I had that much money, but I dont, and likely never will. And that's cool with me. I'm taking advantage of the system that allows 99% of people to have things they can't afford at the time of the purchase, and the only negative to that is people that live irresponsibly enough to be put to bankruptcy.

Dave Ramsey is an out of touch with reality wank.

He's stuck in 1971 in terms of what stuff costs and according to him we all should just drive beaters and pay for a PhD delivering pizzas.
