Nothing if you don’t really use your vehicle for heavy off-roading with tent on it. I overland with tent and regular bed racks get twisted when flexing which will then twist the tent’s base.

Also, a lot of bed racks are held by the rail system which also gets twerked and a main weak point in the set up.

Those were the reasons I had a bed rack fabricated in a different design: bolted onto the side of the bed with brackets inside of the side of bed to act as bed reinforcements.

Ah, I see. That makes sense. Do the bed stiffeners help to alleviate any of these normal flexes of the bed and thus keep the tent base square?
Also, do any companies currently make a rack system that bolts directly to the frame, similar to roll bars?

Yes, those bed stiffeners you can buy does alleviate a lot of the flexes. I would have gone that route, but I have an MX4 bed cover and none of the companies could accomendate it since the cover uses its own track system for a low profile cover. So I had my local off-roading shop fabricate a bed rack with my design and their inputs using the same material (DOM tubing) as the roll cages they have on their huge rock buggies.

Pertaining to bolting onto the frame, I don’t think there are, but I could be wrong. If there is, I can see them being bolted fromthe outside of the bed and wraps up and over the bed. I have seen people with regular bed racks and then have a local shop reinforce it with a tube that goes from the floor bed. As long as the weight is distributed as much as possible, I don’t think you would need to have a bed rack bolted directly to the frame even for rollovers since majority of the weight is in the front.

i believe the leitner one ties into the bed bolts or something like that.

Seriously heavy duty but also incredibly expensive.

I'm hoping my kb voodoo one holds up ok off road. Won't be using it for a tent just mounting some gear like hi lift and treds possibly the spare tire too.

If your not holding up a tent, it should hold up. The only concern with tent is that most bed racks including kB voodoo has a little play in em to help with the flexing. However, you don’t want any flex when there’s a tent... having a twisted tent is not fun and cost too much to easily replace.

    i honestly hate RTT lmao.

One of the guys I go with has one. Its cool and sure is comfortable, keeps you off the ground in the rain and bugs and critters. But think its a false sense of secuirty when it comes to bears and any bigger animals. But most of all just dont like the idea of the weight of them.

Honestly, it’s just for bugs, rain, and if you overland, no hassle of clearing out a field to place a tent down. I don’t know why people think it’s for security.

I have light weight tent which only weighs 100 lbs. I also like the fact I can tear down and setup in a couple of mins and just keep all my sleeping bag, blankets, pillows in there and fold it up. On top of that, I have an annex that goes on the bottom that only takes another min to put on and use that as restroom and dressing room (I normally overland with 5 other people including my significant other and my buddy’s and her friend). I camp out for almost a week so I also like the comfort.

See I'm hammock lol. I tie to rack and find one tree. Everything I use is meant for backpack camping so everything is small and light besides the fridge.
