From weld splats...not a bid deal and your warranty will be able to get you far enough if it ever escalates...it is the same type of rust you see on disc brakes after a rainy period without driving your car...and that wipes off...don’t worry.

Welcome to the forum. If it worries you get some Rust-Oleum Rust Reformer or Corroseal Rust converter and treat it.

I believe the second pic is not rush but the weld material has a goldish look to it. Read that somewhere. I might be wrong.

I’d scuff it up, rustoleum paint it, then fluid film to prevent any more rust asap.

I agree with you 100%. These Tacoma frames have an inferior coating from the factory, they need a healthy coating of rust check or fluid film to keep the rust away.

"Scuff it, clean it and paint it"

Document it with Toyota, monitor and observe. Don't try and fix it yourself. Given how much money Toyota has dulled out on frames, they will shut you down if they find out you tried to fix it yourself because "TW told you to do so"

You might get lucky with them if you do, but seriously, why risk it?

The dealer took pics and sent them to toyota and one of Toyota's "specialists" told me it's normal wear, I realize I'm going to have to fix it but like I said I was just woundering how common this is on new tacomas

Toyota dealerships nationwide were flooded with Tacomas getting new frames because of rust. Changes were made to the 3rd gens. If your frame is rusting, keep it clean and continue documenting. IIRC, 10MM of PERFORATION is subject to them fixing it.

Some of what you see, isn't rust. It's bronze from the weld. I'm a pleb and don't know the proper terminology but I'm sure someone else here does. Not gonna lie, one of my first posts was about this. I quickly learned there is more to life than worrying about it. You have an awesome truck, enjoy it!
