What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

I bought it. Millermatic 180 MIG for $300 - needs some work but it's decent. Did a couple test beads and it works decently.

 

Did it come with a manifold and hose for a bottle?

 

Just don't get flux core shit is not useful in my opinion

 

It is super useful when you're working outside where there is a breeze or if you need to run a long run on some less than ideal material you can use the fluxcore with gas and run it as dual shield. Flux core on it's own is not bad but most people only experience it with an AC welder which makes it act like spattery shit.

 

That's my experience. Though my welder is a POS thinking on using the High voltage outlet in the garage for a welder and plasma cutter combo.

Lmao I'll show you my welds if you wan. It'll make you feel better about yourself they are stuff of nightmares. But hey they hold, plus you ever had a welder decide to go from slow wire speed to full throttle all the sudden lol. Luckily I haven't welded a thing on my truck.

 

I have yet to get as pretty of a weld using flux core as I have with MIG, but it sure is cheaper and better in a breeze. Just bought gas too, so now I can do both, just need a 220V drop in my garage, that will probably wait for the next house.

 

Welders almost never draw 30amps so you could always use your dryer plug if it is close.

 

The dryer is upstairs and down 2 hallways, but it did cross my mind... One of the houses I'm looking at (my dad's neighbor actually) has the dryer next to the garage, so that should be easy if the dryer is electric, forgot to check.

 

All you need is some gud ol' extenshor cords lol jk don't do that

 

a 50' appropriately sized cord would likely cost more than just paying an electrician to make a permanent drop to the garage

 

Yeah normal extension cords are no bueno. The extension I use for my 110v welder I made myself with nice SJOOW cable and quality ends. A buddy of mine made a 220v extension for his welder with a huge roll of conduit and some wall boxes. It works and hasn't ever tripped a breaker. We just unplug everything when we're finished.

 

Thanks! I'll have to see if I can grab the GPS file that the lead truck had, he mapped out our trip and marked each landmark along the way.

Dunno if that was the same spot the Tundra/Jeep parked on but I wouldn't be surprised, you could tell a few people had driven through there and it was very clearly blocked off from vehicles. Shame when people do stuff like that, makes amazing trails like this get shut down or shortened due to other's carelessness

 

Do they squeak all the time or just at certain times like right before the truck comes to a complete stop or when they heat up? Are the surfaces of the rotors smooth or weirdly grooved in any way? If they seem good from inspecting them I'd say bed the everloving eff out of them.

Yea, I have had to do some "farm welding" to fix a gate for a farmer down the road. And it worked ok just when I'm trying to weld a bed rack or anything like that for my truck. It just doesn't seem to work as well which is why I don't like it..... maybe the steel needs to be dirty or rusty lol. But if works for other people I'm glad just not for me.

 

I've only ever arc welded (don't even know if thats the correct term). My uncle has a couple different welders at his shop that he'd probably let someone show me how to use, just never needed to...
