Maybe it was replaced at some point with a joint without a zerk.

Found this... Can someone confirm I can just unscrew it and put a new zerk fitting in there? Or is this a "sealed" u joint?

Edit: Looks like this is a Moog replacement u joint. Must have been done by previous owner at some point. Guess I'll be getting an adapter...

How much grease should be put in to each u joint? I have been doing until a little bit of old black grease, squeezes out. Should I be filling more? Just curious about because of the clean up, in between the joints ..

They are a flush type joint , meaning you can pump as much grease as you want through them but save yourself some grease and clean up .
With this said , its best to flush the joints until you see fresh grease coming out of all 4 caps

Any universal joint with a grease zerk is a flush style joint

Good stuff on the write up and pics. Just did this today and it seems it hasn’t been done or wasn’t filled well initially. Got about 7-8 pumps in all zerks before old grease was coming out and new stuff started showing.

2014, 4x4 auto 4 cyl got greased today. I found five zerks and greased them all thoroughly. Red grease came oozing out. I think that this may have been a first. After the grease got flowing I heard air crackling as it flowed. I stopped when the red grease came out and the crackling stopped.
    Thanks to all

How are you guys cleaning around the u joints after greasing? Dried up grease that's flung onto the undercarriage and baked on is a pain to clean later

    I don't.

I don't care how much grease is flung off the driveshaft onto the underside of the bed and the stuff that hits the exhaust will boil off after a couple drives.

Yeah I wiped up a little with paper towels but honestly just pressure washed the undercarriage after the last wheeling trip and hopefully cleaned some up if it hadn't already flung all over.

How are you guys with full skids getting to the zerks on your front driveshaft? I was under there the other day and got the front joint after some contortion but couldn't reach the transfer case end unless I pull the skids which is a big PITA that I'd rather not deal with.

I remove mine for DD an just slap them on for wheeling trips. That’s easier than removing for oil changes/greasing. Cept the front I leave on don’t like the innards showing

Replacing everything worn, broken, and rusted.
Just did this. Some points to note. No need to jack up the truck. All can be done on the ground. Front diff rotates easily. All other zerks can be reached with a flex hose and a good arm.

Also the worst one by far was the rear end of the front diff. Heat shield definitely in the way. Sure you could take it off. But if its rusted bad, even easier, a trick I learned from a pro guy at Mercedes. Just bend the shield down from the right side of the truck 2 inches. Slide flexible hose in from the right side. Position fitting with left hand. Lube. Then bend shield back into place.
