When a vehicle gets worked on at a dealer, the action is inputted into corporate's database. They know when things fail and the odds of something happening earlier.

They put the extended warranties together to wager their database against your money. You're betting against the house.

You can’t assume they are only betting on Tacoma’s. They’re betting against Camry and corolla as well. Not to mention the 4Runner. Those are not new platforms getting kinks worked out of them. The Tacoma is. Food for thought.

Remember if you buy that extended warranty and a year or two you decide to trade it in on something else no matter what make, ya need the paperwork saying you traded it and mileage report. turn it into where ya bought the trucks f you’ll get a prorated refund on that warranty.

You can usually transfer the warranty to a new private owner too for a small fee.

OP, shop around. You aren't required to purchase the extended warranty at the time or purchase or the location of purchase. Figure out your mileage average and how long you plan on having the rig, and then determine the appropriate warranty length. I'd use the list below (same list I obtained) and see if the dealer will beat it (or at least match). The list below should be for the Toyota Factory Extra Care Platinum Zero Deductible Warranty. If they won't negotiate, I'd walk. You have coverage for several years, so shop and get the best rate. If you are planning on financing the extended warranty into the loan, you may not have as much leverage. Good luck and enjoy the new rig.

Toyota Corporate Warranty ONLY ... don't get stuck with a 3rd party or a Toyota Regional Distributor Warranty that looks like a corporate warranty.

A lot of snake oil in this particular process ... be careful ...

If I purchase an extended warranty would I have to pay full price or would it just be added to whatever I financed?

You can add it to the amount you're financing.

...^^^... Negotiate the price way down ... then have it financed if you wish ... these are separate issues.

The cheaper price you pay for the warranty ... less you have to finance and pay interest on ... double saving there in pricing and interest.

8 years/125k miles for $1500. My understanding is that is around dealer invoice.

The warranty price is also based on YOUR specific type of vehicle too .... ie ... 4x2's are cheaper than 4x4's and etc.

In 2016 I bought the Toyota's platinum warranty for 8 years 125,000 miles for $900 but that was negotiated before I bought the truck. The salesman had to have the sales manager buy off on it. During the actual buy out the finance guy was totally pissed as it cut his commission. Just remember your not getting however many years you are buying as you already have the first 2 years. so for 8 years you pay for your only getting an additional 6 years.
