Yeah it’s not worth grinding any powder coating off unless you have to. My antenna was mounted on my powder coated bed rack and when I grounded it I had SWRs in the 1.1-1.2 range. So I’d at least try to get it mounted a see what it does because with it using the bed bolts it may be grounded well enough. Plus high SWRs won’t hurt the cb just testing it for that short amount of time.

Yeah so the paint needs to come off. I’ll snap a picture when I go get breakfast. But here’s the pictures I have now. I took sandpaper, wrapped it around a drill bit then threw that in the drill and sanded the inside of the hole. Then sanded top and bottom of the hole with palm sander to remove paint. Once I get the antenna tuned I’ll go back and do some touch up paint to prevent rust where I sanded too much.

MAKE SURE TO TUNE YOUR ANTENNA BEFORE TRANSMISSION. you can listen all you want but don’t try and send anything until it’s tuned. You can burn up your radio.

    Also I’d suggest a spring!

Nice, maybe its time for me to take my truck in as well if they're giving out tacomas. Which dealership gave you that? Any pics of your frame? My frame may not be bad enough yet since i've magnet painted it a couple of years ago.

Plasti-Dip the rims black. It'll last for years and can be removed pretty easily.

Installed Dakar leaf springs, replaced the OME 884 with 887 and new top hats. Tried to get it alignmed at Toyota with my lifetime alignment and they said I have to wait a month because I got on done in November and they will only do it every 6 months. All the tabs we're put back so the alignment isnt off to much. Just sucks that Toyota is such a bitch about stuff like that, I mean who really going to abuse free lifetime alignments, they take you vehicle for practically an entire day....

Just got back from Fastenal a little bit ago with my SOS Offroad skids. @EddyRRT knocked it out of the park again! Now to prep, paint, and mount these bad boys before I fly out next weekend!

Question about your antenna mount and grinding off the paint, dosen't the white washers isolate the antenna mount from the mounting bracket anyway? I'm about to install CBI hood mounts on my 13' and need to figure this out.

So I need to grind off the paint only on the side opposite the isolation washer?

I believe so. Any time I've used a Fire Ring I've also used a stainless mount, so I've never had to worry about sanding the mount itself, only between the mount and bodywork.

Whichever side the fire-ring makes metal-metal contact depending on how you mount it per the diagram they give you (above or below mount). There is a metal rim on the ring that grounds to the mount basically.
