    I'm surprised there are any still around. Mine was a real tin can. When the door closed, the metal would ring. Very thin sheetmetal was used in those.

    I've seen carnage you have found. It made me wonder and worry a little. I'm guessing you have been running it pretty hard. Probably harder that I normally do, although I had a bent axle hub.

    I'm pretty hard on my truck all the time, I'm sure its not just the occasional huck causing these problems. If I'm not into the bumpstops constantly I'm not driving hard enough. I think that style of driving, and a lot of it, over the last several years is what's causing my problems.

    Everything I've got going on now if fixable, my only concern is what breaks next? If I add the coilbucket crossbrace, where's the force going to go? Are the chromoly axle shafts going to transfer more force to the diff? I think I'm going to be stuck chasing down problems like this as long as I use my truck like I do.

    At some point you'll win out though. Jason pretty much did with his. But took a lot of flogging and repairing.

    The problem then becomes money. After all it is a 17 year old truck with 276k miles on it.

    Dropping $500 on axle shafts, bearings, new studs, etc. I've already invested so much time and money into it it seems like a waste to stop now, but at some point I feel like I'll need to draw the line.

    yeah no doubt.

    But they you just have to start over. Even if you got a nice deal on a 2nd gen at around 100k. You're back to square one and back to pouring money into it to get it how you want anyways.

    at some point, you'll plateau and it'll just be a maintenance thing. I think it happens with age as well as you won't always drive balls out all the time in later years in life. (not saying that is gonna happen soon, just saying it could happen as comfort becomes more of a priority vs going fast)

    That's why I haven't given up on it yet. I couldn't even begin to guess how many hours I've got into my truck.

    Slowing down is probably my best best, but going fast is fun.
