The barber chair is when your felling a tree and it splits up the tree. It is a scary feeling and 100% loss of controlled or derectional falling. The barber chair is caused by one of three things.
1. A hallow or rotten tree
2. A pre existing split due to wind lightning or other.
3. A very slow cut in the back cut combined with a deep or to far in front cut (also known as the under cut or gun cut).
Some types of trees can be cut to avoid a barber chair but a gun cut being cut down on first cut then in on the second cut (this is the humbolt cut).
Keeping in mind three main cuts for a proper tree felling.
1.top cut
2.under cut or gun cut
3. The most important to saving your ass is the back cut. Do this one to slow or tomuch to one side or not enough and your a dead man.
