I know yall like to tag the 3rd gens, but..............that being said.............if you know any owners with the non JBL, tell them about the subaru upgrade! Massive difference and was easy to do!

I can actually hear the dash speakers now :)

.....what can I mess with next?

    Happy friday to all!

Ugh shut up! I’m so irritated that I have the JBL in mine. I bought new speakers that have their own tweeters too. Well I can’t use them so I had to buy a new amp and some other thing and having it professionaly installed. My $300 speaker upgrade is now gonna be close to $1000. But at least it will be like a rock concert inside my truck!

Ive had all the components sitting in my room for the last month. I just can’t find a time to get them installed. Hopefully next week :fingerscrossed:

I was looking at that as well. But I ended up just buying better parts individually. And there’s not a lot of options for 3rd gen. And the JBL package kinda screws everything for me. I just can’t wait to get my stuff installed. Got infinity kappas going in the front and a set of JLs going in the rear.

One day I will tinker with the other speakers, but the door panels seem a bit more difficult to mess with.............lol

At least now I have decent sound in the front....it was sketchy on both the 16 and the 17 (tho the 17 was somewhat better)

My only concerns are making sure all the stock buttons and stuff work, staying with the stock HU, and I believe I read that the ********* stuff does.

My mid-life EDM kick and the stock stereo do not get along well. :anonymous:

The JBL system is actually somewhat decent for the lows. But the mids and especially the highs are complete garbage. And those are what I need because all I listen to is punk/rock

My lows currently aren’t too bad. I don’t do edm at all so I’m not that concerned about having super crazy bass. But it’ll definitely be nice to have a little more thump in the speakers when I’m rockin to some Blink haha

...or some Fat Mike bass lines on a NOFX track.

I went from the crappy paper cone speaker to a set of mid grade Pioneer components and it is night and day how much better the acoustics were. Still gives me some low range too. I wouldn't mind getting a self powered sub that'll fit under the seat, just to help it out some. I don't need thump.. Just a little more on the low end.

I’ve got the included JBL sub behind the rear passenger seat. It’s by no means a good sub but it does help a bit on the lows. I can’t wait to put everything in and hear the difference.

    Speaking of 4runners.
I've been eyeing this 99 with 200k miles. 3.4, 4x4, keyless entry, new brakes and axle seals. $4k.
    What do you guys think?
