Two diodes facing opposite directions? Wouldn't you create a black hole, with current entering both directions and nothing leaving? :boom:

He didn't say if it is wired in series or parallel. Assuming parallel would make the best sense so current can flow either way. Wouldn't matter what direction you install your homemade fuse.

Edit: went stupid for a second

The diodes will cause a certain amount of voltage drop across them. Usually about .6 or .7 volts.

The S terminal on the alternator senses voltage at the battery. It uses the sensed voltage to determine how much it needs to charge.

So if you put a .7 voltage drop on the sense wire, the alternator thinks the battery is .7 less than it actually is. So the alternator increases the voltage to compensate.

    Yes, parallel.

This guy only uses 1 diode. Same principle though.

I had a 2rz 2.4 so you might not be able to get that high.

Here I just did this to illustrate. On my work bench I have a power supply like they use at car audio stores to run the display radios. The power supply supplies about 13 amps at 13.5 volts.

Here is the DVOM reading with no diodes involved.
    6F9063A9-4220-4B09-9D19-7E6F7DC23976.jpg

Here I’ve put a 1/4 watt diode on the positive lead. The stripe needs to face the alternator. In this case the DVOM is the S terminal on the alternator.

    97604213-339B-43D0-931B-83F58AFBD1F0.jpg

As you can see, the particular diode drops voltage by approximately .25 volts.

    8AC51CDD-B543-427B-8587-D9B214B4D713.jpg

Lets add another diode in series.

    489BD46E-DED9-45B8-87D7-DEF4E1B3ED1B.jpg

Now we are down .5 volts.

    E5C743A3-6AE8-4FA5-9F61-947203E3B1EB.jpg

    One more for fun.

    21234CCD-749F-42E8-A091-2270E53B45D0.jpg

You can put more diodes in parallel to increase current capability. The ALT-S fuse is 7.5a so I’m pretty sure you can get away with not having any in parallel.

Different sized diodes have different voltage drops.

The guy in the video I posted earlier says the diode also acts as a fuse. I can’t vouch for that, so I’d try to keep the fuse. Either by splicing the diodes into the harness or making some sort of jumper if doing it inside the fuse box.
